| lavoisier's Full Review: Logitech Z-560 4 Speakers |
For people that have just plain 2.1 or 4.1 speaker systems for gaming, they don't really know what they're missing out for their experience. It was true, until the Logitech Z-560 THX certified 4.1 speaker system came around. With the Logitech Z-560 4.1 speaker system, you can even replace your aging speakers and still achieve high quality audio. With the speaker system, you can finally bring the experience home, without ever going to a concert or movie theatre.
Hardware
The speaker system package includes an 8" subwoofer that produces a thundering bass for high quality audio and THX certified movies such as Star Wars or Independence Day. The package also included 4 magnetically shielded satellites that could be hanged to the wall for greater surround sound experience or be placed close to the monitor to save some space. The satellites are basically powerful enough to really duplicate any home theatre settings for your computer. Plus, the digital decoder amplifier is also bundled to control the bass, treble and volume of the speakers and subwoofer. But for many people, including myself; they wished that the decoder were larger, like the one that are provided by the Creative Inspire 5700 Digital.
Experience
Installing the speaker system is very easy and anyone can do it in just no time at all. With the audio inputs plugged into the subwoofer, it tells us that the subwoofer is basically the hub of the speaker set. The speaker wires are just like the ones that we use on our home theatre speaker systems and it goes in very easily into the subwoofer and satellites.
With each of the satellites producing 53 watts RMS of audio power, it is sure to really shake and heighten your senses. With the 188 watts RMS coming out of the subwoofer, the speaker system delivers a high quality thundering bass for your audio and video entertainment pleasure. For the best experience, place the subwoofer close to the wall, but not too close though; for enhancing the subwoofer's capability of bass production. With those metal speaker stands provided on the satellites, it allows you to hang the speakers for saving desk space and to enhance your surround sound experience. But what actually came out of the speakers really amazed me here, as it really produced true and lifelike audio from the DVD movies such as Independence Day, Star Wars and any THX certified movies that are out there. Even though there are movies out there that aren't THX certified, the speakers will even enhance your audio experience of a lifetime. For just conventional audio, it does have the same effect as it delivers adequately thundering bass and clarified trebles to enhance our audio experience, kind of what you expect from the concert.
The decoder is equipped with easy to adjust control knobs that allow users for fine-tuning in their audio, whenever necessary. It even allows you to plug headphones into the decoder for private entertainment. But the size of the decoder is rather small and the labels can be hard to read as a result of its compact size.
With the 400 watts of total power, this package of speakers could really make your room a movie theatre or even a concert stadium. But despite the high power ratings, it still doesn't feature a center front satellite for greater movie viewing experience in audio. For the best results, it's ideal to connect the speaker system into at least a 4-channel surround sound card, such as Sound Blaster Live! Value. But it will also do perfectly on 2 channel audio cards, but with a slightly sacrificed performance. But it's not just designed for computer audio, as it is also compatible with your Nomad Jukebox or portable audio players.
Conclusion
In conclusion, for a speaker system that costs about $200 with THX certification and 400W of RMS power, it really is a great value compared to those Desktop Theatre Speakers. But the lack of a center front satellite makes it less qualified as a desktop theatre speaker system though. But in many ways, you'll find this speaker system a great boost to your old speaker system for video, audio and games.
