Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse - Acting up after nearly two years...
Written: Feb 25, 2009 (Updated Nov 28, 2010)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Ergonomically designed to fit your hand naturally and it looks cool too!
Cons:Spontaneously double-clicks!
The Bottom Line: This is the mouse to own. The design surpasses anything I've ever used in the past 20 years with features I didn't even know I wanted until I used them!
Update: (11-28-2010) This mouse has functioned for nearly two years perfectly. But, recently, the mouse will spontaneously do a rapid double click when I intend to do a single click. I will go to delete one email for example... and, two or three will get deleted. I find this with just about anything I'm doing. I checked the Logitech forums and found this is a very common problem. What was once the mouse of my dreams has become a nightmare. Some people have suggested that Logitech made a large run of mice with badly made Chinese micro switches. I'm now currently looking for a replacment. I don't want to spend $100+ for something that only lasts two years.
Be sure to save your sales receipts! You never know when you may have to return something for warranty.
I'm not sure I want another one just like the one I have since this problem came up.

I've been a dyed-in-the-wool PC and Microsoft mouse user for the past 20 years. Recently my ergonomically designed Natural Laser Mouse 6000 died and the newest version had me hating it from the first time I put my hand on it. It just didn't feel right and I couldn't get used to it. My son, who is a computer professional working for IBM, had been telling me for years that I should try a Logitech mouse instead. He says that the difference between Logitech and Microsoft mice is like Porsche and Ford. So, out of frustration, I decided to give one a try. The MSRP for the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse (Black) is $99.99 which certainly puts this mouse into the Porsche end of the spectrum for sure. I found it on Amazon.com for $74.00 which was comparable to the Microsoft mouse I couldn't stand. So, I ordered it out. When the new mouse arrived I was very impressed with the fancy packaging. The mouse itself has a racy futuristic look to it. Sort of like an expensive sports car that looks like it's going 100 mph standing still. The most important thing is that the mouse fits my hand almost perfectly. And, it has features I didn't even know I wanted! There are the usual left and right buttons, the wheel for scrolling up, down, left and right, and two programmable thumb buttons on the left side that I have set for Forward and Back browser functions. I mentioned earlier that the mouse "fits my hand almost perfectly". The rear most button is a little further back than I would prefer it. My hands are big so that's probably the reason for that. On the left side just there is a nifty thumb wheel. If I have multiple applications running at the same time I can easily switch between them. A click of the wheel brings up a pop-up window with a list of the running applications. By rolling the wheel back and forth it will highlight each application one at a time. When the desired one is highlighted, click the wheel and that application will come to the front. I like it! Just behind the top wheel is a small button that can be set to search on your favorite search engine or reference website. I have mine set for Google. All I have to do is click and highlight a word or phrase, click the little silver button and it does an instant Google search for me using the word or phrase. Cool! The overall feel of the mouse is so ergonomically designed it just feels natural. I don't have to think about how to properly mount my hand on the mouse as the new Microsoft version does. It just works and works well as a good mouse should. Plus, Logitech added an extra wide area on the base that projects to the left side. This prevents the mouse from rocking over and lifting the laser as the new Microsoft mouse did. It's pretty much a no-brainer... if the laser doesn't work well, the mouse doesn't work. There's more! The MX Revolution comes with rechargeable batteries and a charging station! Just behind the two thumb buttons on the left side are four green LED's that light up whenever the mouse is being used. As the number of LED's lit decrease it's a reminder to sit the mouse into the charging cradle. The manual says each charge is good for about 15 days. So far, I haven't had to recharge it. But, it's an easy task. Just stand the mouse upright in the cradle and two gold plated contacts on the base make contact with the ones in the cradle. They even made the cradle look racy too! I feel that this Logitech mouse just completely blows away the competition. After using it for a week, I am loving this mouse!
