Why Use a Mouse With a Long Tail?

Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:Works well, compact, easy to use, inexpensive.
Cons:Changing battery is a bit of a chore (but not so bad).
The Bottom Line: What do you call a mouse with no tail anyway? A mole? This is a wireless mole!
I use a laptop at work every day. I usually plug it into a docking station which has a bunch of wires connected to it, including a wired mouse, which I use every day. At work, the wire on the mouse often gets caught up in objects on my desk (such as my coffee cup!). Ugh! I also use my laptop when I work at home or if I am working remotely. When this happens, I use my Logitech Wireless Mouse.

The wireless mouse, like the wired mouse, is used to access many of the control functions within the computer. All mouse units must have some sort of connection with the computer it is working with. Nowadays, this is usually via a USB port in either the side or back of the computer. With a wired mouse, you plug the USB connector in the port and data signals from the mouse controller are sent via the wire, through the USB port, to the central processing unit of the computer. With the wireless mouse, the signals are sent via a tiny transmitter built into the mouse controller to a receiver that is plugged into the USB port.
The Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse is a basic compact mouse. I was attracted to the simple design and compact size. The mouse receiver is very small and attaches to the controller part when not in use. When needed, simple take it off the controller and stick it in the computer USB port. The mouse is automatically activated and a small green LED lights up to let you know the mouse is powered up. When not in use, simply pack up and I stick my mouse in my laptop briefcase to use when I am working in a remote location (like home!). It does not take up much room and there are no wires to deal with.
I purchased this wireless mouse on sale at Walmart last year. It only cost me about $15. There are other mouse units for sale that have all sorts of bells and whistles on them and ergonomic designs and such. But why bother? This mouse suits me just fine and does a fantastic job at a very reasonable price. The mouse is pretty much 100% made of plastic which is typical of all mouse units sold. This mouse has two tone grey/silver colors.
Logitech has proven to me to be a reliable manufacturer of computer accessories. I have used several of their products including keyboards, mouse units, speakers, and data storage - among other items. All of their products seem to be as good as or better than competitors’ products. This wireless mouse is no exception.
The first time I used this mouse, I had to insert a single AA battery. The mouse did not come with a battery, which is fine with me. Whenever products come with a "free" battery it is usually some sort of inferior battery that just adds to the cost of the product. I snapped off the lid, which was a bit of a challenge, and put my Eveready Alkaline battery in, then struggled a bit to put the cover back on. Also, the first time I used the mouse, the mouse self-downloaded some software drivers onto my computer. I do not recall all of the details, but it was painless.
The mouse is incredibly easy to use. It functions as good as my wired mouse, as far as I can tell, however, without the long wire that gets in my way. The controls are very simple and standard: Left button (click on software button), finger wheel (scrolls through screens); right button (brings up menu). The mouse did come with instructions, but I did not bother to read them. I need the instructions to operate a mouse about as much as I need instructions to wear a new pair of sneakers. Everything is intuitive.
I am using my second battery after a year of use. I probably would still be using my first battery, but I left the mouse connected to my laptop and on for a week. I should also point out that this mouse does not use a track ball, like some older mouse units. Track balls collect all sorts of dust and dirt from the desktop and impede performance. This mouse uses a laser that is virtually maintenance free. If the mouse does not work right, simply wipe off the bulb. The mouse has some glide strips pasted to the bottom that make the mouse easy to slide over a regular table top - no more mouse pads needed!
I am very happy with this mouse! I remember using early wired mouse units on the first computers. At first, I did not like using them but they became essential to use the computer, so I adjusted. Although not much seems to have changed in the overall design of these units, I am always fascinated by what new technology brings to my computer table. I only wonder what is in store in the future? Thanks for reading my review and best wishes for a nice day!
