| daydrmgirl's Full Review: Logitech (930582) (930582-0403) Mouse |
I've lived with the tracking ball mouse for a couple of years. Got used cleaning the ball once in a whenever the cursor ran wiggly across the screen. Not anymore! I got my very first (and only) optical wheel mouse along with my laptop. Gosh, never before was using the mouse such a pleasure.
The Amazing Optical Wheel!
First, the sensitive, accurate tracking is amazing. You can put the mouse on just about any surface. Whether it be your leg, your sheets, a piece of paper, or the surface of your desk. Don't try to use it on glass surface though, because light goes right through and you'll see your old pal, the wiggly cursor.
The optical wheel gives out a bright red light. It is not that comfortable to stare at. It gets into a standby mode with a dimmer red light. However, because of the mouse, I turn off my laptop when I go to bed. It's just too creepy to have a blob of red blinking stuff on my desk when I'm trying to sleep!
The Logitech Look
The exterior design of the mouse is just ordinary. However, it does not lose the taste of logitech products. The color goes well with just about any set of desktop/laptop.
Durability Tested
It is very durable, as I've slammed and dropped and smashed it on to the floor various time and it is still as good as new.
As Far as Cleaning is concerned...
Since the button part has a lighter shade of gray, it easily catches any dirt and dust. With your sweaty fingers meddling on it, it develops some sweat marks. You can easily rub it off with your fingers or just wipe it with wet cloth. Think on the bright side... No more tracking balls to clean! Hooray!
Scrolling Wheel
Yes, the scrolling is sound is kind of loud. I don't think the sound is "unpleasant" in any ways though. I wouldn't have noticed it unless I'm in a really quiet room. It's just a mechanical "click click." I totally enjoy the scrolling wheel for I can just read things uninterrupted online without having to look for the "page-down" button. You'll really appreciate the invention when you are doing research online. It works well with pdf (adobe) documents as well (one "click" is usually one page). My complaint is that when using picture preview, the scrolling function is sometimes converted into "zoom in/out" function. While it can be handy sometimes, it is usually a hassle as I sometimes scroll accidentally and find myself staring at a 1600% zoomed page.
Idiot's Guide to Installation
With USB, just plug it in. Nothing hard about that. The driver is usually in the system already (win me, win2k, xp) It also comes with a adaptor (USB to PS/2, the usual outlet for mouse/keyboard). It comes in handy when you have more device that will take up all the USB slots (it happens a lot nowadays as more things are using USB.)
Conclusion
I'm gonna use this mouse as long as it works. Maybe you'll enjoy its service as much as I do!
====== UPDATE (MARCH 2004) ======
I used my logitech optical mouse with my Acer Travelmate 610TXV. I never bring my laptop anywhere without the mouse. My beloved laptop was stolen this January, and of course, the thieves took the mouse along. I got a new laptop (a Toshiba M30) and I bought the exact same mouse to go with it! See how much I love this mouse? :)
