egale's Full Review: Logitech (920-001176) Keyboard and Mouse
For whatever reason, this is not a regular Logitech retail product but an OEM product. It comes in a plain brown box rather than a fancy retail package.
The combo consists of the Logitech 2000 keyboard and the MX620 mouse. The difference between the retail and combo versions of the MX620 mouse is the receiver. If you have a retail MX620 mouse, it won't work with the 2800 receiver and vice versa. The combo uses the standard setpoint software as well even though Logitech says it uses an older business version of setpoint. I didn't try it as I already had the retail 4.72 version loaded on my machine.
First the mouse. The MX620 is my favorite Logitech mouse of all time. It is comfortable in your hand, responsive, has forward/backward side buttons, tilt scroll wheel.
The keyboard is simply wonderful. I had used the Logitech S510 keyboard in the past but my accuracy was horrible with it. The keys were mushy and close together. Not so with the 2800 keyboard. The keys have a nice feel and are separated enough that my accuracy is good. It is a simple yet sleek design void of a lot of the "extras" I don't want or need. It does have volume control, internet and calculator buttons but the function keys are function keys. The Microsoft 7000 keyboard I was using previously had each function key additional mapped to some function I never ever used. No more function shift key!!! Its a wonderful thing.
As for gaming, I do some but I don't do anything heavy duty. To me, the mouse and keyboard is plenty responsive. I have never used a high cost gaming keyboard and mouse and to be honest, am sure I wouldn't notice any difference with what I do. I think for most but the most demanding gamer, this combo is absolutely perfect.
I can finally retire my other keyboards and stop the quest for the perfect combo. This is it!
