Pros: great pics in great light, nice software, easy to use
Cons: poor pics in low light, orb topheavy b/c of long cord, no clip on base
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this camera for first-timers and ole-skoolers alike!

| imcrafty1979's Full Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 Web Cam |
I've long been a fan of Logitech keyboards, mice, and cameras, so when I was in the market for a webcam, I defaulted to picking a Logitech model - there is no other option, as far as I'm concerned.
I first used this camera with my Mac G4 Graphite tower, and later with the PC w/ XP. The software for the camera is quite similar on each platform, and equally as easy to use on each. The only real difference I've seen in out-of-the-box functionality was that on the Mac, the button on the top of the camera works to snap pics, while the software is foremost on the screen, with just the CD software installed. On the PC, the button doesn't work with just the CD install; you have to download updated software, which will make the button work when snapping pics, so long as the software is running - it doesn't have to be foremost on the screen.
The cord on the camera is about six feet long, which can open up many possibilities in picture-taking, but the cord makes the camera quite top heavy, as the cord likes to pull the orb backwards. I usually keep the cam on top of my tower, with the cord slack draped back and forth over the box so it won't weigh down the orb. Speaking of orb, the orb unscrews easily from the base, which I'm sure someone could find useful! (It also swivels!) The lens on this camera turns back and forth (manually, not automagically) which allows you to focus near and far. The base of the cam fights nicely in your hand, and is sleek and rounded enough to fit almost anywhere else. It does not, however, have a clip-on base like the ones I've seen on older Logitech models.
The software that comes with the camera allows you to take still shots, shoot video, create animations and time-lapses. It also allows you to setup a motion detector, and internet webcam/video. The package comes with auto-update features and tweakable camera controls, allowing more flexible picture shooting! Stored pics and videos are displayed in thumbnail format right inside the interface. Very well laid out!
Video capture: up to 640x480 pixels
Still image capture: up to 640x480 pixels
Frame rate: up to 30 frames per second
I recommend this camera for anyone not looking for portability (it doesnt work when not attached to the computer.) It's great for use in ample light, but doesnt work well in low light. In the right conditions, this cam takes pics you'd swear did not come from a webcam.
Very impressed, Logitech!
