grupera's Full Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 Web Cam
I work for a university in the "Technology" department. I troubleshoot hardware and software problems DAILY! This is the worst product I have ever had to troubleshoot.
We bought 4 of these little cameras because we wanted to hold some classes via conference calls to save our students the trouble of having to drive 1 hour to attend class. This class conflicts with out ITV class so we decided to purchase these cameras.
I setup the camera on a gateway laptop and the other end setup theirs on a PC. For whatever reason, even after downloading ALL UPDATES and PATCHES, these cameras REFUSE to work on gateway laptops.
I did try it on a Toshiba and it worked fine for a while but half way through the class, it would freeze.
I am running XP and I read another review where the person stated it didn't work on XP. The other end I'm working with is running XP and they have no problems.
I have borrowed a PC from our computer lab and set it up with windows 2000 and I have no problems.
Another issue I have with this camera is that we are on a T3 Connection. Even with that type of speed, the image quality is poor on the receiving end. There are a lot of dropped frames and minor freezes here and there.
It is impossible to get a hold of tech support. There is no obvious number listed anywhere. I had to call me local compuserve (where I purchased the cameras) and tell the sales rep that he was going to be my tech support since he sold me the cameras and there was no other way for me to contact Logitech.
