opinionated3's Full Review: Logitech V220 Mouse (V2201)
I recently purchased a used eMac computer from where I work and everything was going well up until I realized that the original mouse that came with the Mac just was not going to cut it. You see, Apple is very proud of its single button mouse design so every Mac came with these mice. The problem is I am a PC user at heart and I miss my scroll wheel and extra button. It is very difficult to copy and paste without the extra button on that single button Apple mouse.
So I ran right out to Best Buy and started searching for a suitable replacement. I was not necessarily looking for a cordless mouse; I could easily plug the USB cord into my keyboard and would have been very happy with it. However, after looking through all the mice Best Buy had, I came across a cool little mouse from Logitech and I bought it.
Logitech V220
The V220 is part of Logitechís notebook accessory line and it definitely fit well with that concept. It is a compact little mouse that would fit well inside a computer bag. However, with that compact size, comes an issue if you have large hands. Fortunately, I donít have large hands and I was able to operate it quite easily. The V220 uses laser optical technology so this means there is no annoying red light emanating from the bottom of the mouse; it uses an invisible beam to track the movement. According to Logitech the V220 has exceptional sensitivity and this equates too much better control. I cannot disagree with their claims.
The compact size of the V220 makes it very light, but another feature of this mouse that makes it very light is that it only uses a single AA battery. If you have ever used a cordless mouse in the past you know that they do normally weigh quite a bit because of the two AA batteries. Again, like the compact size, the single battery causes an issue; battery life. The single battery does drain faster than I was used to and I was a bit concerned about that. To Logitechís credit they included an on/off switch to help save on battery life, but I did not use it.
The installation of the battery (included in package) is kind of tricky; you push a button on the bottom of the mouse and the top cover pops up to expose the battery compartment. There is a small green LED on top of the mouse just in front of the battery compartment cover to indicate that the battery is installed properly. A pretty cool feature of the V220 is the holder for the USB cordless receiver on the bottom of the mouse. This way you do not have to worry about misplacing the USB receiver in the bottom of a pocket of your bag.
My Final Thoughts
Though it may sound by my review that I would highly rate this mouse, but alas, I cannot, you see it only lasted a couple of weeks of moderate usage and for that I can not recommend it for purchase. Now, I could have very well got a defective unit, but I also went through several batteries in the couple of weeks I used it. Therefore, I donít trust that Logitechís assertion that a single battery design is beneficial in any way. So I would recommend you look elsewhere if you are in the market for a notebook cordless mouse.
