Pros:Great size, accuracy, smoothness of cursor movement, battery life, small nano receiver
Cons:Would have to load bloatware to achieve more functionality of the mouse operations
The Bottom Line: I passed on the V470 to buy this one and haven't looked back...GREAT choice for the mobile user! Accurate, Smooth and awesome black color to match my notebook!
I was debating between getting the V470 and my Black Nano V450 Laptop mouse. I actually have a laptop with Bluetooth built in...so why did I end up going with the V450 Nano? There were a few reasons, primarily my desire to maximize my laptop's battery life as well as not deal with any sleep lag and possible lack of smoothness of cursor operation.

The Nano V450 has been a real pleasure. The accuracy, battery life (it has an on/off switch and the mouse is powered by 2 AA batteries, included), comfort (I'd say I have medium sized hands for a guy) and smoothness of cursor flow has met my high expectations. One concern I had before opening the package was whether the size of the mouse would be comfortable for me. I enjoy my Microsoft mouse I use with my desktop. It's a full sized mouse that allows my thumb to rest alongside the groove very comfortably...ergonomics on that mouse are great. In some reviews of this Nano V450 I noted a term, "claw style", used to describe how this smaller laptop mouse was used. Well, for me the term "claw" does not bring to mind the word comfort. I can report that with the rubberized sides of this ambidextrous (lefties can use this same as righties) mouse makes getting a nice grip easy and there is a slight (because it is in fact smaller than desktop mice) groove upon which you can ever so slightly rest your thumb.
The accuracy of the mouse can be attributed to it being a laser mouse (not optical). The laser feature allows for it to be used on most any surface. As I am using my laptop now, I'm sitting in a reclined easy chair with a cloth surface. The mouse is sitting on the right arm of the chair and the sensor has no problem transmitting with 100% accuracy my moves. Such a pleasure using the Nano V450 versus the touchpad on my laptop. The functionality and experience is greatly enhanced with this little mouse.
Installation of the Nano V450 is a breeze. I run Vista 64 bit OS and once I plugged the tiny nano receiver (the receiver does in fact take up one of my 3 USB ports, a slight negative vs. bluetooth) in Vista immediately recognized the device and automatically installed basic Windows drivers to provide for basic mouse functionality. As this basic functionality is all I really need (I prefer not to load any more bloatware on my system) I am working with just right/left clicks and the scroll button. Software is included and required to gain additional functionality. The scroll wheel can be tilted to both the right and left and functions such as back and forward (browser back/forward for easier internet surfing) can be assigned. Although I would enjoy being able to go back to my previous internet page with a simple tilt of the wheel to the left, the requirement of software installation, which I have read takes up a fair amount of space and uses a relatively poor GUI to set up, has me choosing to stay with the basic and fully operational setup. Lastly, I did read that installation of the software has, in a few cases at least, affected the drivers dealing with the touchpad in an adverse way...I pass.
The Nano (plug and forget) receiver is in fact tiny. Yes, I am losing one of my 3 USB ports. I am not concerned as I don't plan on using peripherals requiring a USB port anyway. I will occasionally use an external thumb or hard drive to move data, but I will have an open port for that. The Nano receiver sticks out approximately one third of one inch and I plan on keeping it in the USB port as my case can very easily accomodate it. Also, there is little to no danger in banging in to such a small protruding receiver...great job here! If you need to take it out, there is a slick storage space inside the mouse which will put the mouse into sleep mode automatically (battery preserving mode).
So all in all I am very pleased with this device. Opting out of an easily available and apparent "no brainer" choice to use my bluetooth capable laptop has, for me, been a good decision. Since I now have my bluetooth off (as well as my touchpad, very easy to use off button right on top of the touchpad), I have noticed a fair increase in my useful battery life...perhaps as much as 20 minutes extended from before with both of those items turned on. I am using a standard 6 cell HP battery right now for reference.
