chrismc_us's Full Review: Logitech Z-2300 2 Speakers
After reading many, many great reviews of the Logitech Z-2300s, I decided to purchase a pair. Afterall they are THX certified and have everything you need - an 8" subwoofer, excellent wired controller with master volume, subwoofer and power controls as well as a headphone jack. They also have "Polished aluminum phase plug" drivers which I was very happy with when I bought the Z-5300s.
The subwoofer is pretty big and very heavy, with the amplifier mounted onto the back of it. The other speakers and remote plug into the back of the subwoofer.
After setting up the speakers and connecting them to my PC I was immediately horrified! These speakers have absolutely no midrange! They sound (at least to me) like a telephone connected to a subwoofer, there is no warmth - they have excellent bass and excellent highs but nothing in between. Sure they are loud enough, but what good is power without quality.
I also tried some movies and games which definitely sounded better, but I still sensed the midrange was missing. Everything is very tinny and boomy. I attempted to rectify this with an equalizer, but ended up with distorted bass and highs and still no midrange.
I hate to go against the grain, but if you care anything about musical quality, these speakers are simply not it. They have great bass and clear highs but the midrange is non-existent.
I've always been a loyal Logitech fan when it comes to PC speakers, but unfortunately, I have to give this set the thumbs down.
