Pros: Cheap
Cons: Speakers sound terrible, low SPL output

The Bottom Line: DEFINITELY NOT recommended for music aficionados.
MAY BE OK for gamers, or casual listeners of Rock and Roll :-)

| gyrgrls's Full Review: Logitech Z-340 2 Speakers |
They have got to be kidding!
These speakers just plain suck.
I did a few tests of my own - day two, and these speakers go BACK to the dealer.
The first thing I noticed was the incredible distortion of the bass frequencies. The crossover (which the company does not advertise) is about 225 Hz -- too high! Worse still, there is a horrendous trough in response from about 300 Hz to 800 Hz - upper bass, and lower and middle midrange suffer accordingly.
There is a serious resonance along a band between about 75 Hz and 200 Hz, like some kind of electronic equalization is used, internally. This is bad. This is possibly used to try to cover up inadequacies in the mechanical and acoustical performance.
These speakers sound boomy at best, but I have heard better "boom boxes" with a ported reflex design.
I'll stick to my old IBM Aptiva desktop speakers. They (the IBM speakers) start doubling when overdriven at or below 120 Hz, and they rattle a mite bit, but the bass is relatively tight and smooth down to their modest cutoff frequency of 50Hz. And at least the IBM's sound sweet, when swept with a a sine wave from 200 Hz to 16000 Hz ... more than I can say for the Logitechs. Certainly the IBM's have minimal phase distortion in the midrange, giving them superior imaging. The Logitechs do not. They break into weird modes, possibly due to badly designed internal bi-amping ?
Fooey on these speakers. Get IBM speakers if you want reasonable clean sound. The IBM's aren't the greatest, but they're leaps and bounds above this Logitech rubbish.
