| Magick1's Full Review: Look Alert Eye Brightener |
I keep trying to occasionally find something that will help me cover up the deep, dark circles that I have under my eyes without having to go the “made up face” look. I don’t mind a bit of eye liner or shadow and or a touch up here and there. But, I absolutely hate putting on the foundation, blending, blush, blending, eye shadow, lipstick, mascara, etc. I like low maintenance, natural appearances. And, I strive to keep that (besides, it saves one HECK of a lot of time each day!)
The Product
When I saw this in a recent catalog (sometime this year), I thought that the price looked good and the premise seemed easy enough. You could lighten the area under your eyes with or without make up. I was a bit skeptical, but thought I would try it.
The tube is decent sized, easy to hold in your hand and it has a pen sized shape with a wider body. If you are familiar with the Pentel R.S.V.P type pens, this would be pretty close in roundness. The length of the tube is roughly 5 inches long.
There is 1.4 g of product and the entire thing weighs only 0.4 of an ounce. So, it’s compact, light-weight and easy to carry. There are varying shades available: light (which I tried), medium, deep and an illuminating pearl.
When I first got the item, I ripped open the package (there is a plastic wrap around it). It was a touch tough to open, as the plastic is really shrink wrapped around the tube. But, they do have perforations in the plastic and once you can actually grab on to the wrapper along this perforation, it will tear back pretty decently. But, have you had plastic wrapping that it kind of rough and sharp on the torn edges before? Well, this one is a touch sharp. So, be cautious opening the wrapping!
I immediately, upon opening, started twisting the bottom of the tube to get the product to the soft bristles. It seemed like the item was broken, as I twisted, and twisted, and twisted for what seemed like a tremendously long time before anything came out of the tube to the bristles. And when it got to the bristles, it kind of bubbled up with a lot of the product on the tip.
The premise of this brightener is to dab a few blotches of the brightener under your eyes and gently rub it into your skin and blend it. I found this seemed to blend rather quickly and it seemed like it was covering decently. But, I went back to “touch up” a spot that seemed to be really dark still and it almost seemed like the product pilled up or started to rub off. It’s hard to explain.
Initially, looking under the office lighting, it seemed like the brightener did a decent job of brightening the under eye area, but the lighting in the bathroom is different. The appearance looked to be more of a shiny, pearly type make up that just did not seem fitting on a face with nothing else on it.
This product appeared a bit cakey and seemed to appear overly done. I have tried again multiple times to see if it was user error, beginner problems or just the product. I find this to be the product. No matter how light I feel like I am putting this on, it seems shiny and just doesn’t look natural. After trying really hard to make it “just enough”, the dark circles were still showing and seemed as though there wasn’t anything done anyway. So, why bother. Also, after about 1 hour, you really couldn’t even notice anything was on the skin, unless you looked up close.
Overall Impressions
Another attempt to try a product that could help brighten the area under my eyes has failed. Short of getting made up every single day, I don’t think anything out there can do it, keep it looking natural and be an inexpensive fix. So, another product tried, another product failed and I was out a bit of cash.
I found that having left the applicator unused for about 3 days that the lightener on the bristles (left in the bristles after using), made the bristles seem to be clumped together and stiff. They were not hard, but they were not easily and gently moved. Each time using the applicator, you have twist and twist and twist to try to get product out and then, when it comes out, it’s too much for the small eye areas and you always seem to waste product. With only 1.4 g of the product, you will go through it quite quickly too.
I am happy that I got it on sale for half price. I will not order this again. Some may have good luck with the product. But, checking on the http://www.avon.com/ website, it appears that they have roughly 70 people with an opinion on the product and only 44% of these people would recommend it. So, that does tell me that people feel just like me and they were not happy with the product either.
~Thanks for spending time with me today!~
