The Bottom Line: Loreal has hit the nail on the head with its new minerals line of foundation. It's fast, easy to apply and give you light to full coverage.

I read several reviews on Epinions about Loreal Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup before I decided to take the plunge and buy it.
I found there to be only eight different shades at my local discount store. Soft Ivory , Light Ivory , Nude Beige, Creamy Natural, Natural Beige, Buff Beige, Sun Beige , Classic Tan All were either too light or too dark. They really need to expand upon their color selection. The color is defined though the packaging which wasn’t easy to discern. Each one ounce jar starts around 13.99 each.
The packaging is great for traveling because it is compact. The one ounce jar is transparent, the lid silver. It screws off & has the application brush attached. The brush sits straight up & a clear cap covers it keeping the bristles in form. When the cap/brush is removed, there is a sifter in place that traps, releases the powders so you can pick them up with the brush.
Applying the product isn’t very easy at first, especially if you haven’t worked with mineral powders before. The instructions tell you to shake the excess off the brush and apply in a swirling type motion to your face. Shaking off the excess is key here, too much of the powder in one place the entire application is ruined. There seems to be no happy medium with this product. I like the foundation itself, its just the application brush & the small container that holds the powder that gives me problems. I’ve overcome this tad inconvenience by removing the plastic sifter then using my own application brush.
Simply apply a small amount of powder to the brush, shake off the excess & apply by sweeping the brush in a circular motion over your face. I work in small areas one at a time so my face is covered evenly, yet not heavily. If you want a lighter application use less powder, for a heavier application use more powder. Just repeat the application as needed instead of using too much powder all at once. This is ideal if you are trying to conceal blemishes, discolorations, etc.
The powder really does cover quite well & the finished look is natural, not heavy. It doesn’t give you a powdery finish although the end result is a matte finish. It really doesn’t have a noticeable scent, which I like. I have become very sensitive to fragrances in my cosmetics.
I’ve found this to work great for oily, dry, sensitive, combination skin. My sister & I both have been using these (they make a blush, powder, and finisher also), & her skin type is the opposite of mine. She has very sensitive, dry skin. Mine is oily in places, normal in others. I have red patches on my cheeks regardless of the season. Individually our routines vary, she uses a moisturizer first, concealer around her eyes second, then the mineral powder. I use a concealer on any hard to miss spots then the powders. I then use a finishing powder to set my foundation. We both have the same outcome, a perfect foundation to start application of the rest of our cosmetics. I highly recommend using some type of moisturizer before using this especially if you have dry skin. It gives the powders something to cling to. Otherwise you may get a flaky, uneven application. Allow your moisturizer to absorb before applying the powders.
Reapplication isn’t necessary throughout the day, no matter the weather. It does a very good job of staying put. Although oily skin will tend to shine on through, you many need an additional powder (which Loreal does make in its Minerals line).
Removal is just as easy, although do use a good makeup remover. Soap and water will take it right off. So far I’ve had no clogged pores or breakouts due to using this product.
You must know that this is not true mineral foundation. There are other ingredients that set it apart from foundations that are purely minerals. It contains fillers & preservatives, vitamins, and moisturizers. However Loreal claims it’s mineral powder is All Natural, Non-Acnegenic, Non-Drying, Oil and Fragrance-Free & will give you Light to Medium Coverage. It also has an added sunscreen of 19 SPF.
Overall I have found this product great if im in a hurry. You can control the coverage, & im a minimal amount of time.
I do not like the applicator brush, the bristles are a little too harsh for my skin, & the handle to small to get complete control.
I do not like the sifter, it has to much control over the amount of powder I can use.
I do not like the colors, if you were to mix a few colors you could get a very close skin tone match. But that would be a tad expensive.
I do like the application, the appearance of, and the ease of this product.
I do like the price, its around half of what you pay for a high end foundation.
I do like the compact packaging which is perfect for on the go and touch ups.
All in all it’s a good buy especially if you can and do use drugstore type foundations. I don’t think you will be disappointed. There aren’t several steps to applying & you get a clearly made up face without looking like a clown . And it takes very little practice to get find the right amount of product for you.
