Holographic Only In The Tube: L'Oreal Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor

Pros:Non-sticky; smells good; doesn't taste bad; glitter/shine isn't over-powering
Cons:Not really holographic; doesn't plump lips; too much like original Glam Shine; bad applicator
The Bottom Line: Not a bad gloss, but is too much like the original Glam Shine to warrant its own "holographic" formula.
I really like L'Oreal's lip products, and have been a big fan of their Glam Shine Lipcolor, so when I saw that they now have a new holographic version of this product, I knew I would have to give it a try. Recently while out shopping (a frequent occurrence!) I happened upon a "buy one L'Oreal lip product, get one free" sale at my local CVS drugstore. I picked a new Holographic Glam Shine Lipcolor and an original L'Oreal Glam Shine Lipcolor.
L'Oreal Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor is a "plumping" lip gloss that contains a lot of shimmer particles. The shades are supposed to be "holographic" or color-changing. There are four shades in this line of Glam Shine: Whirl, Aura, Fusion and Sizzle. Of the four shades, all of which I checked out at the store, the only one that appears to be truly "holographic" is Fusion, which is a pink gloss with a fairly strong turquoise presence when the light hits it. It's a bit much for me but might be good for those looking for something a bit more color-changing. Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor comes in just one size, which is a .20 oz. tube.
Speaking of the tube, the Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor comes in the same type of tube that the original Glam Shine Lipcolor comes in - a clear, non-flexible plastic, hourglass-shaped tube with a silver plastic screw-on cap. The applicator is the same as well - too-long, too-flexible, shapeless and fuzzy-tipped.
I really don't want a lot of multi-color effects on my lips. Although I get away with seeming a bit younger than I actually am, I still don't want nightclub lips or lips that are pink in some light and purple in another light. But a little bit of sparkle and shine never hurt anyone, and if I can get a bit of gold or silver sparkle in a lip gloss, I'll take it. The shade I picked up, Whirl, is a somewhat sheer, light to medium shade of pink with tons of glitter in the same shade of pink and silver. Since it's a somewhat sheer shade, there isn't a lot of glaring, sparkling pink. The "holographic" color can be seen only when the gloss is in the tube and if the tube is held to the light. That's when it shows a bit of a coral gold color - and it took me days to figure that out - that's how subtle it is.
The performance of Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor is the same as the original Glam Shine - it is non-sticky, which is one of the best features of this gloss. I don't mind reapplying a gloss several times a day as long as it's non-sticky. The older I get, the more I resent really sticky glosses. I'd rather have a more comfortable, weightless gloss on my lips.
Speaking of the original Glam Shine Lipcolor, the Holographic version has the same great raspberry scent and no flavor. I have enjoyed this raspberry scent in all of my Glam Shine Lipcolors. It sure beats a waxy or chemical scent.
The color of Glam Shine Holographic Lipcolor lasts for about an hour and then it's history and needs to be reapplied. The same goes for the glitter and shine - it doesn't last long at all - probably because it's non-sticky. If it were a stickier gloss, it would probably last longer.
Overall, the Holographic version of Glam Shine is really not that special. It's an average formula with very little effects. I like the shade that I purchased because it's different from the other Glam Shine glosses I own and I needed a shade like this. If you are looking for a long-lasting gloss, this probably isn't the gloss for you. But if you are looking for a fun, fairly glittery gloss that doesn't taste or smell bad, then you should give it a try.
Price and Purchasing Information:
I got my L'Oreal Glam Shine Halographic Lipcolor during a "buy one get one free" sale. I wouldn't have paid full price for it because I try never to buy drugstore cosmetics without either a coupon or a sale. The regular price at my local CVS drugstore is $8.49. This product is available at many drugstores for about $8.49, as well as mass merchants such as Wal-Mart for about $6.99. Online, it is available at Ulta.com for just $3.49.
