Pros: Not sticky, very shiny and glittery, great colors, smells great
Cons: May be too glittery for some, bad applicator wand
Because I really like Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Lip Gloss, when I saw a new product by L'Oreal - Glam Shine Lip Gloss - I figured it was a lot like Wet Shine Diamonds and had to give it a try. The shades looked different, but it looked like the shine would be similar. Besides that, I like just about every product that L'Oreal introduces.
The official name of this product as written as the product packaging is L'Oreal Glam Shine Dazzling Volumizing Lipcolor, but we will call it Glam Shine Lip Gloss for short.
Glam Shine comes in the same type of packaging that L'Oreal's Endless Liquid Lipcolor and Crystal Infinite Sparkling Eyeshadow comes in - a sort of rounded, plastic, hourglass-shaped tube with a wand applicator. The bottom of the tube is clear plastic, that lets you see the color of the gloss inside. The top is matte silver and has a wand applicator attached to it.
There is .20 oz. of gloss in each tube. (Note to a few other cosmetics companies: YES, some cosmetic companies, who value their customers, put more than just .06 oz. of gloss in a tube!)
Glam Shine is available in the following shades, all of which can be seen at Ulta.com:
The shades are shown lighter on Ulta.com than they actually are. They are about two shades darker in person.
I had a hard time choosing a shade. The shade I finally chose, Diva, is a shimmery, medium, raspberry plum shade. Most of the shades in this line lean toward the pink family, but there are a few peachy and coral shades.
The consistency of Glam Shine is like a liquid lipstick. It is not thin and runny like a gloss - and part of the reason for that is because it is loaded with shimmer pieces. The gloss is not very sheer - it has definite color to it. The shimmer pieces are tiny - even more tiny than the shimmer in Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds and have a silver sheen to them - although I had to use a magnifying glass to see them up close to figure out what color they were! They definitely mix in with the lipcolor and do not stand out as "silver shimmer pieces". The look of Glam Shine on the lips is like a glossy, non-sheer lipstick with tons of shimmer.
One of the best things about Glam Shine is that it is not sticky. This, again, is where the liquid lipstick part comes in. I think that is why L'Oreal calls this a "lipcolor" instead of a gloss.
The scent of Glam Shine is pretty strong and is a raspberry scent.
The applicator wand isn't that great and needs some work. That is what I don't like about Endless Liquid Lipcolor and Crystal Infinite Sparkling Eyeshadow - the fuzzy tip of the applicator wand is too long and is bent and warped-looking before you even get the product open the first time. This seems cheap to me. It's not a very sturdy tip either, and I wish that L'Oreal would stop putting this ridiculous tip on every applicator wand!
The wear of Glam Shine is somewhat longer than an average lip gloss, probably because it is so highly pigmented. It seems that the color and sparkle stay on the lips. Long after the color is gone, I can see sparkle on my lips - this is not really a bad thing, because there is so much shimmer to this product. I get about 2 hours of wear from this gloss before it is gone.
L'Oreal calls this gloss "volumizing" - I would not call it "volumizing" but I do think that it does make the lips look a little bit bigger because there's so much shimmer and shine. (Picture yourself wearing pants covered in sequins - wouldn't your hips and thighs look bigger? ;) It's the same sort of concept, I guess!)
You definitely will not be able to wear Glam Shine to the office unless you work in a very casual office - but this really is a fun gloss and is great for evening wear. I like it just because I like shimmery glosses and wear it only if I am going to be in a restaurant or a club that has dark lighting.
Price and Purchasing Information:
I found my Glam Shine at my local CVS drugstore. The regular price is $7.99, but it was on sale for $5.99 and I had a $1.00 L'Oreal coupon, so my final price was $4.99. I will not purchase this product again for the full price of $7.99, because that seems like a high price for a drugstore brand lip gloss with a bad applicator wand tip.
I have seen Glam Shine at just one other drugstore - Rite Aid. The price there is also $7.99.
Ulta.com currently has Glam Shine for $2.99, so if you want to try this product and are ordering from Ulta.com anyway, it might be something to try since the price is so low there.
