Pros: looks and feels lightweight; provides light-medium coverage; satiny finish; excellent shade selection; inexpensive
Cons: no SPF
Unlike most other beauty products, I am not very experimental when it comes to foundation once I find something I really like. I wasnt shopping for a new foundation (I was very happy with the Revlon Skinlights Diffusing Tint I had been using) when I came across a sample pack of LOreal True Match Superblendable Makeup when this first came out (2 summers ago, I think). It caught my eye because the bottles were so cute and the perfect size for travel. It was a trial pack that came with 3 mini-bottles- a warm, cool, and neutral tone. I picked the second lightest shade, number 2. I am glad I picked this up. This really is one of the best foundations Ive ever used!

So where to begin! I suppose the most logical place to begin is with the shade selection. I have never had my makeup done professionally at a makeup counter, so Ive always just taken my chances with drugstore foundations. My skin is fairly pale, so I always choose something on the lighter end of the spectrum. Ive never been able to tell if Im cool- or warm-toned, so Ive always just assumed Im fairly neutral, since I wear cool and warm colors depending on the clothing Im wearing. LOreal True Match Superblendable Makeup comes in 24 shades, in 3 tones (C for Cool, W for Warm and N for neutral- it doesnt get much easier than that!) The trial pack was a great way for me to find a color that perfectly matched my skin tone. Any one of the 3 shades would have worked in a pinch. The C2 was a little to pink and the W2 was a little too peach, but the N2 was just right! I see the trial packs at stores from time to time, but even if you cant find them, there are often plastic shade tags hanging at the stores to compare to your skin, and there is a questionnaire to complete at the website to help you determine the best shade for your skin color and tone.
LOreal True Match Superblendable Makeup comes in a 2-inch tall, clear glass bottle with a silver screw-on lid. It contains 1 oz. of product. I usually just put a fingertip over the opening of the bottle and shake one time, and I get the perfect amount on my fingertip for an application (I use a light touch when it comes to foundation, though. If I need more coverage I just shake another time). I dab the foundation on my forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks, then just blend in. I always apply moisturizer before foundation, and this product blends beautifully. Within seconds my skin is even toned and smooth. I would say it has a satiny finish. For the most part my skin is normal (more oily in the summer and drier in the winter). I just have minor skin flaws- a blemish here or there, faint circles under my eyes but not enough to need concealer, some redness around my eyes. I feel this gives good coverage for feeling so lightweight. It gives more substantial coverage than the Skinlights Diffusing Tint, but in no way does it look or feel heavy or masklike. It claims to have optical pearls but I have never seen any shimmer in this at all, not even in natural lighting. I wouldnt say this gives my skin a dewy look, but it doesnt give a matte look either. It just looks like my skin, only better. Ive found that I very rarely need to use concealer, unless I have breakout that needs a little extra coverage.
This has caused no problems for my normal skin. I have not experienced any breakouts. This has not dried out my skin either. The texture of this is great. It has the perfect consistency- not too thick, not too runny, and not greasy at all.
This lasts all day for me. Eight hours after applying it, my skin still looks great. I dont know if it would hold up as well on someone with very oily or very dry skin. This does not seem to accentuate dry patches as long as I moisturize first, and it does not make my skin look oily at all. I like this for fall-winter, because it gives me a little bit more of a polished look.
If I am going out at night, I can reapply a light layer of this without removing the makeup I wore all day. It reapplies easily and smoothly, and never looks cakey or flaky. It doesnt smudge or smear. I have never had a problem with this rubbing off on clothing, although I usually apply my makeup after Im dressed. It removes easily with my regular facial cleanser.
My only complaint is that this does not contain SPF. I do make it a point to use a daily moisturizer with SPF, so its not really a big deal to me. However, you need to keep in mind you will need to use another product with SPF in conjunction with this if you want sun protection.
I think this is a wonderful foundation at a very reasonable price and I highly recommend it. I love that it gives good coverage yet still feels lightweight. It was so easily to select perfect shade for me, and it looks completely natural. I love the satiny smooth finish it gives my skin. Im already on my second bottle, and I can see myself purchasing this again.
This product is available at drugstores, discount stores, grocery stores and online drugstores that carry LOreal products. Its regular price is around $8.99, but LOreal products are often on sale at drugstores and there are coupons in the Sunday newspaper about once a month, so if youre willing to wait or shop around, you can get it for even less.
