Pros: Smooth, even, long-lasting coverage
Cons: Can be difficult to decode which color choice is right for you
Unfortunately, my house was burglarized a few days ago and my purse was stolen, along with the keys to the car and my bottle of L'Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Makeup. Fortunately, no one was hurt and my True Match was easily replaced at my local Walgreens - and I didn't even have to pay a tower or the dealership to rekey it!
This Is the Part Where I Stop Myself From Quoting Lyrics From Fiddler on the Roof
L'Oreal's True Match Super-Blendable Makeup is amazing not just because it contains an SPF 17 sunscreen, comes in a small, no frills 1 ounce glass bottle, and delivers smooth, even, long lasting coverage. It's also available in an assortment of shades that are supposed to be perfectly paired with your unique skin tone and undertones. Visit the L'Oreal website and use the flash menu to find your true match by comparing your skin tone and features with those of the women shown.
When I followed the instructions at the makeup display at Target and on the website moments ago, I found that my true match is N2 Classic Ivory, or Neutral 2. While I'm happy that my in-store results corroborated those from the website, I was slightly unsure of myself in the store and a little bit annoyed that I had to take a minute to figure it out. When I went to Walgreens to replace my bottle, they didn't have the display up so I had to select my color from memory alone. If you're thinking about trying this for the first time, go to the website first in case they don't have the display up when you shop.
First, you determine your general skin tone (mine is fair) and then you determine whether your undertones are warm, cool or neutral. I've never been good at the whole warm/cool analysis when it comes to fashion or makeup, so I'm glad they have a neutral option. If you're willing to take the time and trust yourself enough to analyze your undertones, you should be able to crack the code.
Almost As Good as My Elizabeth Arden Foundation
About three years ago, I started spending my disposable income at department store makeup counters. I found the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Bare Perfection Makeup, which I really liked except that the SPF was a little low for my fair skin and the coverage was a bit heavy for sunny days. I bought L'Oreal's True Match Makeup during pregnancy when I wanted to feel beautiful in spite of hormonal skin and having a lot less disposable income to spend. I wore it daily for several months and found that it provided adequate coverage for work or weekend looks.
The "blendable" claim wasn't really tested until the recent burglary when I had to replace my makeup and I picked up a creme blush from Revlon. I found that the makeup did an excellent job of evening out my freckly skin and blended naturally with the blush. I don't get a hideous makeup line where my hair and jaw meet my face and it's very easy to apply the makeup evenly, whether I use my fingers or a sponge. There is no hygenic dispenser, so I usually just dab my finger on the top of the bottle. The consistency is very thin, so I wouldn't recommend this to people who enjoy the whipped foundations that are so popular now.
Blendable, but Not Layerable
Even though I love the medium to light coverage this makeup delivers, I don't like the way this feels on my skin if I try to apply a little more on Day 2 when I haven't thoroughly washed and moisturized my face before application. It can have a plastic-y feel when layered in this way. It motivates me to keep my face washed and moisturized though, and that can't be a bad thing.
The good news is that I never need to reapply during the day. If I need to freshen up, I just use a little of my Benefit Dandelion Powder.
Forget About Identity Theft. What Happened To My Makeup??!!
I think the fact that when my purse was stolen, I tucked my 3 week old baby in the stroller and made the trek out to Walgreens to replace my bottle of L'Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Makeup before contacting the credit bureaus or my insurance agent really says it all about this product. Sometimes you don't realize how much you love something until you lose it, and that was the case with this. I recommend it for anyone looking for a cheap, no frills alternative to high-end makeup who is willing to go through the steps to determine what shade is right for them and has the time to wash their face before reapplying. First time moms like me may not have the time, but at least they'll be motivated to make the time.
Five out of five stars.
