Butter and shortbread cookies are my favorite indulgence. We make pans full of then for Christmas while we decorate the house for Christmas. But I don't have time during the year to make them so I tend to look for other kinds of butter or shortbread cookies to satisfy my cravings.
I grew up with Lorna Doone Shortbread Cookies. My mom hated to buy them because they were always expensive but I got them more often than not because they were my favorite. You could always find them easily in the grocery store because the yellow and white plaid box just stood out. These cookies have been around since 1912, Nabisco since 1898 so it's definitely a proven brand. These cookies are very straightforward; they are just square shortbread cookies with the Lorna Doone name on them. Nothing extravagant, but they sure do taste good.
I try not to eat to many of them so I usually purchase the 5 oz. packages priced at $1.00 at CVS.com to keep in my desk at work, but they are also available in 10-oz. boxes with two packages of cookies inside. You can purchase them at most drugstores, grocery stores, and mass merchandisers.
I like these cookies because they actually have a great buttery taste and they literally melt in your mouth. There is nothing like having to not chew a cookie and worry about breaking your teeth. I cannot stand hard cookies. They go great with milk or coffee and cappuccino. Another good thing is that these Lorna Doone cookies do not contain cholesterol or any trans fat.
