LA Kings Lanyard... a Neck Up Over the Comptettion

Pros:Breakaway clasp lessens neck injuries, holds tickets or work ID, shows team pride
Cons:none really
The Bottom Line: Perfect way to show your team support while freeing up your hands.

I’ve been a Los Angeles Kings fan since I was five years old – when my dad took me to the very first Kings game back in 1967 before the Fourm was even built. Even though the Kings have never won “Stan’s Silver Chalice”, I’ve always stood by my team.

During this year’s post season, I’ve watched my LA Kings eliminate the number ONE team in the National Hockey League (the Vancouver Canucks) in the first round. And as I write this, the Kings have (thus far) beaten the second best St. Louis Blues two games in the second round. I can’t be any more proud of the boys and how they’ve kick-started their average (at best) season – thanks in large part to goaltender Jonathan Quick. One of the ways I like to show team support is to wear my Kings jersey, hat and/or lanyard out into the world.  Any combination of these items usually strikes up conversations with random Kings fans and the occasional Anaheim Ducks fan – our cross-town rivals.

My LA Kings lanyard has a dual purpose though. On game day (at the Staples Center) the lanyard holds a clear plastic sleeve that houses my ticket so that an usher or usherette can confirm my ticket while I have food and drink in my hands. That’s very convenient because having to deal with food, drink and tickets in pockets becomes a drawn-out process and a pain for people behind us. Having the ticket out in my lanyard sleeve really speeds the process along.  I compare this issue with the one person in your grocery checkout line who has to write a check versus most everyone else with ATM cards.

The other use for my lanyard is as a daily accoutrement – it holds my all-important flash drive. Since I take the flash drive everywhere, I wear my Kings lanyard almost everywhere I go. And because of this reason, as a safety precaution, this particular lanyard comes with a “break-away” neck clasp at the top of the lanyard. This greatly lessens the chance of my demise via strangulation. Since other lanyards do NOT have this safety feature, it’s  something to consider when operating machinery or when getting into an altercation with a fan from an opposing team.

Other uses for lanyards include holding employee ID cards or special key cards in the workplace. And lanyards are available in a wide range of sports teams, movie titles and other themes. And for purists, lanyards also come in plain colors.

Features:
An extra-thick 1” by 23” long neck band with vivid team colors and logos – in my case the predominant color is purple. I prefer my last lanyard that was mostly black. The metal swivel clip at the bottom is connected to a heavy duty detachable plastic clip, so using a flash drive or key card is easy. I find that after washing the lanyard, the neck band becomes even more soft and less irritating on my skin.

It should be mentioned that this particular lanyard does not include a plastic ticket sleeve – though many on Ebay or Amazon are packaged with one. If you need to purchase a plastic ticket sleeve, make sure it has an integrated metal grommet for more secure metal clip-to-plastic sleeve connections. I'd recommend this lanyard over ones without the breakaway clasp in the back.

I paid just under $7 on Ebay including shipping. But you can also find them on Amazon and other E-tailers on the net. Of course, if you have to have it right now, expect to pay double or more at a store-front or at a game.
