Have a hankering for pizza, a sub or perhaps a slightly more substantial meal? If youre traveling through Millis, one place worth stopping for all three is Louies Pizzeria where youll find pizzas, subs, sandwiches and entrée dinners, all at reasonable prices and all served with great service.
While Louies is set up more as a take-out restaurant, there is a small sit-down area in the front of the restaurant with several tables and chairs that can probably seat a couple of groups of people. The majority of business at Louies though is take-out, so unless its right at lunchtime or dinnertime, youre likely to find a seat if you do want to sit down.
Where do I find Louies?
Louies is located in Millis, Massachusetts in the Milliston Plaza at 4 Milliston Road. Its in the smaller portion of the plaza, separated from the main portion of the plaza with Roche Bros. and CVS. The small plaza that is home to Louies also includes a video store and an eye care store.
As its part of the Milliston Plaza, theres always plenty of free parking, though at times you might have to park some distance away from the restaurant.
Im walking inside
Louies is pretty small and is set up like a typical pizzeria. There are several tables and chairs set up as you walk in, followed by the counter area and then the kitchen in the back of the restaurant. To order you just walk up to the counter and place your order they will call you when its ready. Thus theres no wait staff you place your order at the counter and then you pick it up when its ready.
Im ordering
One of my biggest problems when we walk into Louies is that I could stare at their menu board for a long time before deciding upon what I want simply because there are so many different choices. Theres pizza, subs, burgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes and dinner plates, along with plenty of different sides to go with any of those dishes.
My favorite tends to be the steak tips plate which I get with rice and salad (you can also choose from fries, onion rings or salad). You get a very good sized meal that is more than enough for one person (I almost always have it for lunch the next day) and it only costs about $9 for the meal. Im also partial to their cheese pizza, which is very reasonable at only about $6 for a small and $9 for a large. My partner, if hes not getting pizza, tends to get the deli sandwiches that they offer he loves the roast beef.
The pasta dishes are also good you can get a number of different plates, though I tend to like the chicken parmesan and my partner loves the chicken broccoli alfredo. These dishes average around $8, but other pastas dishes run as low as $5 each.
There are also several different kinds of wraps and calzones and should you be looking to stay healthy, a number of different entrée salads, along with smaller salads to go with your entire meal.
Service
While there is no wait staff, the service is quick and friendly at Louies. From the time you order at the counter to the time that you get your order is generally as quick as it can be since all the food is pretty much cooked to order. I think on average its usually about 10 to 15 minutes if youre getting something thats cooked, while deli sandwiches generally dont take as long.
Since this is also a take-out restaurant, you can call ahead and your order will be waiting for you when you arrive. In regards to the take-out service, Louies does not offer delivery service youve got to come and pick it up.
Final Thoughts
I like Louies it reminds me of pizzerias back in New York and in Boston where you walk in, order what you want and then either sit and eat it or take it back with you. The steak tips (or chicken tips) with rice and salad is excellent and I doubt that anyone would not be able to find something that caught their interest theres just that much stuff on the menu.
Overall, Louies is a solid kind of place you know what to expect and thats good food at good prices with served by the pleasant people working there. I dont go in expecting the best food in the world, but I go in knowing that whatever I do get will be good and I will enjoy it.
Louies Pizzeria is definitely worth a stop if youre in the area.
