sparkospunky's Full Review: Louisiana Cajun Seasoning 8oz
I'm always looking for new and different ways to add flavor to my seafood. I cook a lot of fish on the grill, and sometimes I just want a little more than than great grilled flavor. When I want to add a little "zing" to my fish de jour, I like to apply a liberal dusting of Louisiana Cajun Seasoning, a condiment that I've only become acquainted with recently.
The label of Louisiana Cajun Seasoning proudly states that it "tastes great on everything!". I don't know about that, because I've only used it with fish, but the unique blend of salt, red pepper, garlic, paprika and other undisclosed spices really adds a lot of zest to a piece of tuna, swordfish, tilapia or shark. I like to spray a little olive oil on both sides of my fish filet, then season both sides liberally with Louisiana Cajun Seasoning. After I've slapped it on the grill and seared both sides for a few minutes, a nice, almost blackened crust forms that adds a whole new dimension to grilled fish.
The taste of Louisiana Cajun seasoning is not complex, nor is it overly spicy. Instead, the ingredients are nicely balanced to offer up a taste to the fish that hints at heat without being overpowering. Some people like it hot, but I much prefer a much more subtle flavor when it comes to heat and spicyness, particularly with fish. There's just enough red pepper here to satisfy me, and the garlic provides a nice counterpoint to the pepper.
I buy Louisiana Cajun Seasoning in the 8 ounce cardboard can for a little over $3 at my local Kroger. Since I usually cook for one, a can of this seasoning usually lasts me for several months.
I'm starting to look for new uses for Louisiana Cajun Seasoning. I think the next time I grill shrimp I'll dust them liberally with this stuff. The thought just makes me hungry!
