debdeb's Full Review: Janette Oke - Love Comes Softly
I feel so bad for these two people. This isn't my usual type of Romance, but it is very good. Oke is a very inspirational writer that touches the heart. This is a story set in the old west.
MARTY GOES WEST-
Marty Claridge and Clark Davis meet when Marty and her husband Clem move west. On her first day in the west Marty and her husband's wagon wheel breaks. When her husband goes for help he doesn't come back until some neighboring men bring back his body. Marty is now alone and pregnant out in the west where she knows no one.
NOW WHAT-
Clark Davis, one of the neighboring men, has a way to help them both. He is a widower with a small child and a farm to take care of. He believes if they marry she can help raise his little girl plus she will have a protector and provider. As if in shock Marty marries Clark and goes with him to her new home. Clark wants her for nothing more than to cook, clean and take care of his young child, Missie. He loved his wife extremely and believes that no other woman can take her place.
LEARNING TO KEEP LIVING-
Marty has to learn to live in her knew home with a child that isn't hers and a man who she knows nothing of. Clark has to learn how to live with this woman taking over his home and his wives rightful place. Together with Missie they must learn to live again and make a better life for them, Missie and the unborn babe Clark doesn't even know about. This story is very touching.
HOW THIS MADE ME FEEL-
I cried right along with Marty through out this book. I smiled, laughed and hoped with Clark and Marty. It is a great inspirational book for anyone who believes in love. One thing I really liked about this book was how Clark wasn't afraid to show his feelings. He showed loved, anger and he wasn't afraid to cry.
