I bought this book without knowing anything about it. The first time I read it aloud to my children, I had tears coming to my eyes in the end. That rarely happens to me and never has happened to me with a children's book. That being said, I do think parts of it are a bit strange.

Let's start from the beginning however and discuss all the points in the book. The book starts off very sweet with the mom singing a song to her children at night when she sneaks into their room while they are asleep. My little ones love the song and we made up our own tune to sing it. They sing a long with me.
The story is humorous as it discusses the things that toddlers do that drive the mom crazy but she still loves him unconditionally. It goes on to show the little boy do things as he grows up into a pre-teen, teenager and on that also drive the mother crazy. But-at nighttime, when the boy sleeps, she goes in the room, rocks him back and forth and sings the same song to him.
Then things do get a little strange as the boy becomes a man and gets his own house across town. The mother still gets into her car to drive across town and climbs up to his window. Granted, she checks to see if the lights are off in his house before sneaking into his room but I always think about what a surprise she might have waiting for her there. Can't she at least make a phone call first? Anyway-that's my own adult mind thinking way too much about a children's book. My kids do not even think twice about it and the book goes on from there and continues to be sweet and touching.
The end is more touching than the beginning and without giving it away, I will say that even my husband admitted he had a difficult time reading it without tearing up and things like children's books really are not his cup of tea. So, get your kleenex ready and keep an open mind and you'll enjoy this book with your kids.
