Pros:Beautiful story that will touch your heart
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: A touching story about the exceptional love between a mother and son. When your loved one reads this book, they too will feel the wonders of love.
My fifth grade teacher read it to me years ago. I cried the first time I heard this story and I decided to purchase this book for my mother. However, a few years ago, my mom told me she misplaced her book. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I went to the book store and happened to see "Love You Forever" on the sitting on the book shelf. I picked it up, read it, and bought it, with a tear rolling down my cheek.
Every time I read this book as a kid, I was emotional. After years have passed, I still cry as I read it. How amazing a book can be! It has the same effect on both child and adult. I was so excited to give this book back to my mom, and she was equally excited to receive it. We both couldn't wait to share this book with my little brother.
"Love You Forever" is a short story about a mother's exceptional love for her son. As a baby, she rocked him and sang to him:
"I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living,
my baby you'll be"
Even as her son grows older, and he gives his mother some trouble, each night, she still goes into his room, rocks him, and sings him the sweet lullaby.
By the end of the book, the mother has grown so old that she is very sick and dying. Her son comes over to visit her and he picks her up, rocks her, and sings her the lullaby ending with "my mommy you'll be". Finally, the son goes home and picks up his new baby girl and sings to her.
This is such a touching story emphasizing the strong bond and never-ending love between a mother and her son. "Love You Forever" is so great because it can be significant for any parent/child relationship. The mother nor the son are given names, so any name can be put in there. And even though this story is about a mother and a son, I gave it to my mom from her daughter. It didn't matter to me who the characters were. The only thing that mattered was the significance of this book. I knew it would tell my mom that I love her the first time she read it, and sure enough, it did.
The book is 32 pages long. There are approximately 13 lines on every other page. On the left side of the book, the story is written and on the right side are the illustrations. The book is an easy reader. "Love You Forever" is very repetitive, but it is a nice touch because it really emphasizes the meaning of the book.
Sheila McGraw illustrated "Love You Forever" beautifully. Each picture is so alive. The characters are so life like and the pictures are just so full of color. Everything is very, very detailed, even down to the bristles on a toothbrush. There are a lot of pictures in this book, with one on every other page. They are so great because they really depict what is going on in the story perfectly.
I am still very pleased with this book the second time around. It is a perfect gift to give to a mother, a father, a son, or daughter. I know my mom loves and appreciates it, and I know your loved one will too!
