~Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bone~
Reason for purchase:
I purchased two of the large Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bones. One for my Husky Shannays who is nearly a year old, and one for my Husky Travis who is about 7 months old. Both are pretty large and are hard to keep occupied. It just seemed like a fun treat to give to them.
Purchase place and price:
On Ebay there is a seller I have been shopping with for years. I buy most of my pet suppies from her. I happened to see the Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bones in her Ebay store so I purchased the two. I paid $2.00 each with free shipping because I had purchased several other items at the same time.
Product details and facts:
The Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bone measures about 10-11 inches or so long, is about 2-3 inches thick in the middle long area. Then the knots are about 4 inches or so. The size is pretty good for medium to large breed dogs. However, they do sell them in sizes that suit small to medium dogs, as well as toys sized ones.
These bones are made from rawhide. What I didn't realize is that the rawhide is a bit thicker on these bones than most. This could be a good or a bad thing. It's always good to have more of something for your money. however, the rawhide can be rough on the stomachs of some dogs, and also create choking hazard which I will explain under my "Use and Recommendation section below.
These dog bones are meant to be given as a treat or chew toy. You should never give your dog Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bones as a regular part of their daily diet. It doesn't carry much nutrition as all and your dog should eat as normal only getting the bone as a treat occasionally.
Use and recommendation:
My Husky dogs both loved the bones. I can not dispute that at all in any way. However, the Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bones turned out to be much more trouble than they were worth. The whole thing just did not go as I thought it was going to go.
Shannaya is much bigger in size. She has huge teeth and was able to chew the rawhide rather fast. The fact that her teeth are so strogn was her issue with the Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bone. She was able to rip off large sized pieces of the rawhide from the bone. This would be great if she chewed the pieces instead of swallowing and choking on them. Have you ever tried to pull rawhide out of a choking Husky's mouth? Let me tell you it isn't easy and I got bit a few times because she kept closing her mouth and trying to swallow. I did get the large piece out and I took the bone away. After that I thre it in the trash.
Then I turned my attention to the smaller Husky Travis, his bone had many smaller pieces chewed off. I still didn't feel safe after the Shannaya ordeal, so I took his bone away and threw it in the trash as well. The only problem is that it was a bit too late. Travis had eaten a lot of small bit of the rawhide. For 2 days after that, he was throwing up, would not eat and then he had "the runs" from eating the rawhide which he simply did not digest well.
With all of that being said. I stay away from anything rawhide. I will never again take a chance of buying the Loving Pets knotted rawhide dog bone, and honestly I wouldn't recommend any one else to buy them. To me they are not healthy or safe.
