Pros: Lightweight, very comfortable and highly waterproof.
Cons: Lack of support and durability are major negatives.
The Bottom Line: If you want boots for rainy day trips to the mall, or around town, these are fine. If you want a serious hiking boot, look elsewhere.

| briansnat's Full Review: Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Height Boots Mens 2002 |
When I first put on the Lowa Renegades, my first impression was comfort. They felt almost too comfortable to be a serious hiking boot. Sadly, 7 months later, my initial impression was correct. The rubber rand began separating from the leather upper at 3 months. Now, at 7 month, the stitching is falling apart in spots. I purchased these to replace a 6 year old pair of Salomons that had seen better days. Now, comparing the boots side by side, you would be hard pressed to tell whether the Renegades, or Salomons were the older boot.
The major issue I have with them is the lack of support. It's simply not enough for rugged day hikes and backpacking trips. A minor, but annoying issue is the design of the eyelets. They tend to make quick work of shoelaces. I just put in my 4th pair in the short time I had the boots. I attempted to use heavier duty laces, but the tiny eyelet holes would not acomodate them.
There are some good points. They are a good looking pair of boots and they are highly waterproof right out of the box.
No need for additional treatment yet. The soles grip well on slick rocks.
