| bstieritz's Full Review: Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Height Boots Mens 2002 |
When I was looking for a new pair of hiking boots, I was floored at the price tags looking back at me in the boot departments of my local outfitters. It seemed that getting a decent pair of boots for under $200 was going to be a challenge until I tried on the Lowa Renegades. The Lowas marry the waterproof and breathable power of Gortex with durable nubuck leather featuring "Cordura," a new material that adds durability and strength against abrasion and tears. They also feature the "Ghilly" lacing system that gives you a snug fit without creating painful pressure points. Being one of the most attractive boots on the shelf helped, too. Nice fit, good stability and styling and built like a brick house. And, that was just in the store...
Now, months (and many trail miles) later, I have to report that the boots have lived up to my expectations. I waterproofed them for extra security as soon as I got home from buying them and have not had a drop of water come in the bottoms or the sides. The sole has kept its tread and the boot cleans up very well thanks to Lowa quality and my post-purchase waterproofing.
These boots, together with a nice pair of SmartWool socks...you'll be in heaven on the trail, I promise.
