Lowrance iFinder plus

Written: Jun 11 '04
Pros:Expandable memory, lightweight, great battery life, EXCELLENT customer service.
Cons:None.
The Bottom Line: Buy the Plus edition...you get the software and equipment for half what you would pay seperately.

I've had my iFinder for over a year now, and I am always impressed at it's performance. The main selling point (to me) when I bought it was the MMC/SD card. Where other GPS units were limited to 16 or 32 mb, I could (and have) upgraded to a 128mb card.
The unit tracks the satallites very well. I've rarely lost a signal, and when I do it's due to the enviroment (inside my truck, or in a heavily wooded area...both of which are notorious for blocking signals). Battery life it pretty good, and you can adjust the power settings for even more battery time.
The unit is also very sturdy. I've dropped mine twice now, and other than a little scratching on the faceplate (did I mention you can switch faceplates? There are fice available colors, including camo), it's performance is as good as the day I bought it.
Another point I'd like to bring up is their excellent custormer service. I lost a battery cover in one of the dropping incidents, and called to find out how to order one...fully expecting to pay, as it was my clumsiness that lost it, and I've had it more than a year now. I received an email the NEXT DAY telling me a new one was on the way, free. One time before that, I called to order a new map cd (I scratched the old one)...once again, I received a new cd within days...free. It's that kind of service that will keep me a faithful Lowrance customer (I had an older GPS and a fishfinder made by them)
My only gripe is it's not water resistant, but they include a clear bag-type holder that you can put the GPS in. When inside, it's completely waterproof (as in, you could dunk the thing and it will survive...try that with your Garmin)
There are several versions of the iFinder. I ordered the Plus, as it included the Map Create software, a 16mb card, and a card reader/writer.
