Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Outdated, large maps lock up and shut down the GPS, pain to load maps
This mapping program is seriously out of date. One of its big "features" is searching for locations and giving you the phone number. This was my main purpose for buying this software. The software has been useless over 3 long trips. Hotels along the interstate don't show up on the software and places on the software no longer exist.
I wrote LEI customer service and the replay was "There are no guarantees that the POIs in your area have been changed or updated in the last couple of years. If you could provide a coordinate of a specific POI, we would be happy to check on that for you."
Even if LEI has the POI (point of interest) there is no way of adding it to your software. LEI needs to have a way that customers can upload/download data to update the software and offer updates to customers who purchased the software. Currently there is a version 7 but version 6 owners can't update. You have to buy and start over. Save your $$. Use google maps, mapquest or expedia and add the locations you need to the GPS yourself.
Additionally, the company is so worried about pirating you have to jump through hoops to load a map on the GPS. You have to register the memory card and you can only ever register 5 cards. If you lose a card or the card does not work you can't add another. You also have to use a special LEI memory card reader that is bulky. My PC has a card reader built in but it won't work w/ the software. The software is 6 disks/CDs. Took me over 2 hours to load it. I would get to the 4th-5th CD and it would lock up the PC and I would have to start all over. My mother bought this for me and my father last Christmas and he had the same loading problem.
This product reaffirms "buyer beware".
