iccohen's Full Review: Lowrance iWAY 350C Car GPS Receiver
I like the unit, as it delivers all that I need in this type of device.
Again, for a base unit it offers decent bang for the buck. However, I am so disgusted with Lowrance's poor Customer Service, that I definitely will not buy another model from them, which is a shame.
Pros:
1. Although it doesn't have "Text to Speech" functionality, it will still give the name of the road if it has not been assigned a route number by the local jurisdiction.
2. Small, easy to carry around.
3. Everything is done through the touch screen, so no need to mess with "external buttons". The only button is the one to turn on/off the device, which also adjusts brightness when the device is powered up.
4. Easy to see, low glare.
5. Ability to play music or run slide shows via the SD card (not included).
6. Pretty decent, detailed instruction booklet when compared to others I've seen.
Cons:
1. In order to upgrade the software for the device, you can't just attach to your computer and download. You must purchase an SD card (kind used for digital cameras) so the software can download to the card, which then is accepted by the device. Lowrance's solution to this was either don't upgrade, or I could "rent" a card from them for shipping and other costs. I still have not heard back from Lowrance regarding my comments about this.
2. As someone else mentioned, it does take up to 5 minutes at times to lock on to the satellite feed from a standard (i.e. location known to the GPS) location. That's too long!
3. Trying to delete older visited addresses (or those in the address book) is quite unintuitive, as one must go to recent bookmarks (three levels down) in order to delete.
