ale6548's Full Review: Lowrance iWAY 350C Car GPS Receiver
Maybe I've had bad luck with this model, but I've been disappointed with the iWay 350c. I received the unit as a gift. It was first purchased in May 2006 and I am on my 4th warranty replacement unit from the factory. (Each time calling tech support for a RMA number and waiting on hold for 30+ minutes). The first unit was found to have a defective antenna. The second unit just stopped getting a signal, the third unit had a defective battery, and the fourth unit I've had for about three months now and is currently working.
The main problem I have with this GPS is how slow it processes/runs. I find that if I don't change any of the features and settings from the default it does perform better, but still will take between 30 sec. to 5 min to calculate and re-calculate a route. Sometimes I will have found the road I need to be on before the GPS has calculated a route to that road. When the GPS does work it works well, but I would like to personalize the unit with settings and features I prefer and have it still work correctly. When it works it does get me where I am going, slowly but surely however, I would not purchase from Lowrance again.
The Pros: I do like that it will auto turn off and on when powered from an external source. I also like the long battery life and touch screen menus. The FM modulator is great in noisy situations or during a rain storm. When first powered on the GPS quickly finds a signal and its current location. The maps have all the roads I drive on, even smaller road other GPS's I've seen don't have.
The Cons: It freezes up and the screen goes black and the unit shuts off occasionally. If you touch the touchscreen too much, or try to give it commands to quickly (like zoom out too quickly) it will freeze up. You have to touch once, wait for it to process, touch again, wait repeat etc. You have to be very patient with this GPS. It's not for someone who wants something quick and easy to get them from point A to B without some finagling.
