I went to dinner at Lulu after my wife loved their sister restaurant, Zibibo in Palo Alto.
The place looks very cool when you walk in the door. The high rounded ceilings, the recessed main dining area, the clever salt and pepper shakers. All very cool.
The service was okay if not great. It took our waiter a while to get to us after we were seated, and we had already decided on our meals before he showed up to take drink orders. Actually, that was okay because it saved us a little time. They were good about keeping the bread plate full and the plates and silverware moved and brought.
I ordered the pork loin and mashed potatoes. This was a serious mound of mashed potatoes. I bet it was at least three potatoes worth. Good move. The pork was tender and moist, but not the most flavorful that I have ever had. It was just a little underseasoned, but still good. My wife's chicken was a little better, well seasoned and very moist and tender.
It was definitely loud, and often hard to hear the people in our party. We had a later reservation (for us) at 8:00, and it got even more full as the evening wore on. Pretty hopping place South of Market.
Altogether a good (but not quite great) dining experience.
