I've probably visited Lulu's more often than any other single restaurant in San Francisco. Why? Two reasons, the Frito Misto and the Warm Chocolate Cake.
The Frito Misto is a lightly fried collection of artichoke slivers with the occasional fried lemon all toped with wonderfully thin parmesan cheese. It's not always spot on, sometimes its a little oily, but when they get it right, as they often do, it's heavenly.
As for the warm chocolate cake, I haven't heard anyone say that it was anything less than wonderful. Ever. And I've forced it on many people. You might want to order it at the same time you order your meal, since it takes 10-20 minutes to prepare
Of course, those are just my two favorite dishes, the rest of the menu is filled with gems, and with careful ordering, you can eat very well for under 20 dollars a person.
People often complain about the noise, I often avoid it by waiting until after a show or symphony when it's less crowded, although it's sometimes a little stressful to be speeding through the city streets after a show when you know the kitchen closes at 10:30. Ehh...that just makes the artichoke taste that much better when you make it there at 10:29.
