LuLu for Lunch!

LuLu is an upscale family-style restaurant for folks who aren't dining out with their families -- great big plates of food that you share with everyone at your table.
The last visit to LuLu was with several co-workers for our holiday luncheon -- service was a bit slow and it took us 2 hours to get in and out of there. A bit disappointing but the food is always good.
We started out with several appetizers including their signature the skillet-roasted mussels ($10.50), fritto misto of artichokes, lemon and fennel, garnished with Parmesan cheese ($9.95), along with the warm goat cheese, olives and bread.
Entrees included rosemary rotisserie chicken (13.25), Roasted Acorn Squash, Potatoes & Pears (13.50), Butternut Squash Gnocchi (10.95)and Garlic-Goat Cheese Ravioli (11.50).
The Butternut Squash Gnocchi was by far the scene stealer -- sweet, tasty and filling it had the best set of complementary textures and flavors. The rotisserie chicken was reported as excellent and the enormous portion staggered my dining companion -- she brought the rest home to feed her kids with the comment, "I guess I won't have to cook tonight!" The Roasted Acorn Squash entree was satisfactory but quite plain and not very impressive. It was filling but not very imaginative. The ravioli entree was very very tasty -- but unlike the chicken, the portion was a bit smaller than my dining companion expected.
Desserts were pretty tasty too -- we got a creme brulee and a ridiculously extravagant chocolate dessert to share. Desserts change regularly so keep asking folks who've been there recently for recommendations.
Service was a bit slow -- as I mentioned, it took us quite a while to get through a lunch (we arrived at 1pm). The servers were helpful and good natured, just not around enough.
I'll go back to LuLu's -- the food is excellent, it's an easy walk from the office for a leisurely lunch or an early dinner. They can easily accomodate groups, but there are enough smaller tables for romantic evening dinners. The restaurant itself is cavernous -- high ceilinged and warehouse like -- this makes it extremely noisy. Serious business conversation or the like shouldn't be attempted or you'll risk EVERYONE in the restaurant hearing you.
