| mcmaster's Full Review: Luhr Jenson Klawdad |
The Klawdad is another one of my favorite lures that I use while fishing for Rainbow trout. The reason that I use a Klawdad when I fish for Rainbow trout is that crawdads are the natural food for a Rainbow. The Rainbow trout is always on the lookout for a shedding crawdad. I am not sure how many times a year the crawdad will shed their skin. I do know they shed several times in a year. Particularly, when the water starts turning warmer in the early Summer months. When a Crawdad sheds, they are like a piece of Jello. They are very soft and extremely venerable. This is when the Rainbow trout will feed on the craw fish.
I have tried catching Rainbow with a non-shedding (hard) crawdad. The Rainbow will hit the bait, but then spit it out one it realizes how hard the shell is. This is where the Klawdad comes in. I found the Klawdad while home on leave last Summer. Its a very realistic looking bait. It also has a very realistic crawdad action. The only thing that this bait was missing is the crawdad smell. I use two different types of crawdad fish attractants, so this would not be an issue. The best crawdad attractant that I have used to date is called Basswax. The other crawdad fish attractant that I use is called B.A.N.G. I apply one of the two scents to the Klawdad to get a natural smelling, looking and swimming bait.

My final Thoughts On The Klawdad
The Luhr-Jensen Klawdad is a solid performer. Rainbow Trout and Large Mouth Bass like this bait. The lure itself is put together very well. It is constructed of a very sturdy plastic. The paint also stays on the lure. There are two treble hooks located on the bottom side of the Klawdad. They are located in a logical place and built very well. The action and color of this lure are outstanding. The only issue that I would change to this lure is that fact that its hard. I would like a softer version of this lure. It would lose some action and rattle but more Rainbows would nail the softer Klawdad. Overall, I give the Klawdad four of five stars. Its a good addition to the Rainbow and Bass fishermans tackle box.
