| BRmom's Full Review: Lullaby Light Show |
We received this Lullaby Light Show when we were expecting our second child. Since he is now almost a year old I find that I have had enough experience with this to give it a thorough review. I had very high expectations for this that, sadly, were let down.
The lullaby light show is basically a very simple item. It requires no batteries or assembly. It runs about $17 US dollars in baby and toy stores. The basis of it is easy. You to wind it up at the crank dial on the front, let go, and your baby should be able to enjoy a full 5 minutes of Brahm's Lullaby all while the light show spins around and the soft glow of animals and shapes dances around on their walls and ceiling. Obviously, the room would have to be dark in order to see this marvelous display.
Marvelous display? Dancing animal and shapes on the walls and ceiling? Soothing light show? Sounded great to us! However, we soon realized that we either :
A. Needed better glasses
B. Were VERY tired and therefore not seeing straight
C. Were unknowingly drugged
OR
D. It didn't work like it said it would
Why? Because all the light show cast off onto the walls and ceiling of our sons room were blurs, blobs, and pale colors. We were stumped. The directions and box made it sound like it was the best thing ever. We had it set up on top of his dresser a mere 3 feet from the wall and approximately 5 feet below the ceiling We brainstormed and my husband came up with the though that perhaps, just perhaps, the walls in my sons room were too pale and this was causing the problem. So, determined to make this work we took it around the house into various dark rooms but no go. It just wasn't making a difference.
Yes, we did finally get it to somewhat work. How? By putting it directly up against the wall of the bathroom closet. Being that most people have bedrooms larger than your average closet, I am not sure how anyone would achieve great results with it.
Having said all that I must concede this. It is simple and it does play 5 non stop minutes of soothing Brahm's Lullaby music. Very young infants can't see shapes very well anyway so they wouldn't care. Our 11 month old likes the music and can tell that something blurry and blobby is going over his head and seems to watch it occasionally. Since we didn't pay for it, we don't consider it a waste. At least it gets used.
Would I recommend it? No. Not for $17.00. But, if you were to find one discounted heavily or at a yard sale you may consider it worth the money for the music and the so-called wonderful light show.
Two thumb down
