Hi guys!I have written an opinion on lumiscope 1067 monitor.It has received a very good applaud.Thanx for trusting me.
I am back here to tell u about 1085 monitor.This helps you to record the pulse and blood pressure alternately.To make it easy for you i shall answer a few frequently asked questions first.By the way i am a doctor from INDIA.
WHAT IS BLOOD PRESSURE?
ANS:BLOOD PRESSURE is the product of the cardiac output(i.e.,the amount of blood pumped by the heart per minute)and the vasomotor resistance(i.e.,the peripheral resistance that the blood faces while passing through the blood vessels)
WHAT IS THE NORMAL BLOOD PRESSURE?
ANS:NORMAL B.P has no definite value it is given as a range.
It varies with age.Blood pressure is represented as systolic/diastolic value.(the systole represents the pumping power of the heart and the diastole represents the peripheral resistance)NORMAL B.P is 120-140/70-90.The lower limit of the range(120) is considered normal in the young and the upper limit(140) is considered normal in the elderly.
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT?(SYSTOLIC OR DIASTOLIC)
ANS:DIASTOLIC pressure is more important cause it gives the peripheral resistance.Even if a person has a normal systolic b.p if he has a higher diastolic b.p then he would be considered as hypertensive.
WHAT ARE PHYSIOLOGICAL CAUSES FOR HIGH B.P?
ANS:EVEN normal people can have occassional rise in b.p.
for example as in anxiety,fear,exercise e.t.c. this is because of an increase in the heart rate.So,now you must have pictured out why diastolic b.p (peripheral resistance) is so important.
WHAT ARE PATHOLOGICAL CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION?
ANS:ATHEROSCLEROSIS,DIABETES,RENAL FAILURE,SALT RETENTION E.T.C ARE THE COMMON PATHOLOGICAL CAUSES.Atherosclerosis and diabetes cause gradual narrowing of blood vessels and there by increases the peripheral resistance.
WHAT ARE COMPLICATIONS OF HYPERTENSION?
ANS:Prolonged , uncontrolled hypertension can cause hemiplegia(stroke),heart failure and kidney failure.
HOW IS DAILY MONITORING OF YOUR B.P HELPFUL?
ANS:BY monitoring your b.p regularly you can recognise any
rise immediately and use the precautionary measures. u can consult your doctor immediately and use appropriate medicines.U will also come to know if u are a high risk case for hypertension.
