If you've read my other opinion, you'll notice that I highly rated the ProMax bar. Well, while I still stand by that opinion, I have to say that the Luna Bar has clearly and definitely knocked the ProMax bar out of 1st place.
Before reading on, please be aware that my viewpoint comes from the perspective of someone trying to eat healthier and avoid empty calories and unnecessary fat. If you're someone who eats Big Macs and French fries for an afternoon snack, you'll probably highly disagree with my opinion. Although I gave one to a co-worker, who was highly skeptical about what she calls "health food" she declared it pretty darn good.
The Luna bar reminds of a homemade Rice Krispies snack with some nice additions, such as nuts and berries, depending on what flavor you choose. Unlike the prepackaged Rice Krispies snack, which gives a nasty sugar shock, the packaged Luna bar is a nice balance of sweet, nutty (when applicable), and grainy flavors. It's also loaded 23 vitamins and minerals, calcium and folic acid.
I often use these bars as a meal replacement when I'm too busy at work to go out for lunch or hadn't have time to stop for breakfast. I feel a lot better about eating this for lunch or breakfast than snacking on the cookies and candies that are always lying around or the easy Egg McMuffin located right across the street.
For those who are trying to lose weight and stay on a strict diet, these are also great. Although they don't look big, they're filling enough to help you avoid unhealthy snacks and satisfy your hunger until the next mealtime. They're convenient packaging allow me to keep a supply in my desk drawer.
The flavors that I've tried include Nutz Over Chocolate, Chocolate Pecan Pie, one with berries as well as Lemonzest and a tropical one. The last two flavors mentioned, I have to admit, taste a bit synthetic. I'd even go so far to say the Luna bar tastes a lot better than original Clif Bar.
All in all I highly recommend the Luna Bar for taste, nutritional content and convenience. Added benefits are that is one of the few products I've found made especially for women and they donate part of the proceeds to The Breast Cancer Fund. The only drawback is that when compared to other "regular" foods it a bit pricey - $1.20 on sale at Long's in Hawaii.
