I originally discovered the Luna Bar when I worked at the Triathlon Training Center here in Florida. We would have reps come by to speak with our Physiologists and center manager almost every day. Along with another girl that worked the front desk, I was in charge of the center’s promotions...receiving samples of products to display for our members.
We received everything from body-slimming lotions, to cereal, to nutritional supplements and bars. While the Luna Bar was not a sample that we received for our members...we did receive enough to give out to the employees working there...which is how I ended up with a few bars. I have not stopped eating them since!
In only 180 calories, LUNA is a healthy snack that provides delicious, all natural nourishment.

I’m almost always on the go. Usually I go from bed to work, to the gym and either back home or to run errands...fitting in time to do my volunteer activities with a local church and the Red Cross. So more often than not, I am burning up a lot of energy throughout the day and not replacing it as I should. That’s why I decided to try the Luna Bar when it was brought into the gym by a rep. I was so tired of those nasty tasting bars that had the flavor of a piece of chalk.
These Luna Bars are made by the same company that manufactures the Clif Bar, except that these particular bars are naturally made for women, but I do not see why men cannot enjoy them also. They contain soy protein, which is good for your heart and healthy muscle tissue...which every person needs, not just females.
Not only do these bars taste edible, but they’re also good for a snack because they fill me up like not many other nutritional bars can. There are a lot of people who refuse to snack between meals, feeling that it would ruin their “diet”. I have never been on a diet because I just do not need to loose any extra pounds, but I do have the desire to eat healthy. And having a healthy snack in between meals can help reduce my hunger throughout the day…as long as I don’t go overboard. Which in turn will help reduce the portions that I eat for my main meals.
My favorite flavors of these bars would have to be Nutz Over Chocolate, S’Mores, Sweet Dreams, and Cherry Covered Chocolate. Nutz Over Chocolate is a crispy crunch with peanuts and dark chocolate mixed in. S’Mores is a blend of peanuts and cocoa soy crisps, with a bit of caramel mixed in. Sweet Dreams is a blend of peanuts, caramel, and cocoa soy crisps. Cherry Covered Chocolate is supposed to be real cherries covered with a creamy coating...also containing little cocoa soy crisps.
All of the bars that I have tasted surprised me because they have all looked like regular granola bars when opening up the package. I am not a huge chocolate fan so could really care less if these bars had any on them at all. But I guess the chocolate coating on the bottom of the bar does help with the flavor, to make it taste less plain. The bars themselves look chewy, and that is just how they taste in your mouth. I was really surprised by the flavor upon my initial introduction to the Luna Bar, but now love them and will continue to eat them occasionally for a mid-afternoon snack at work. I have found that with most of the flavors, there is a slight aftertaste, but it is nothing as bad as say the Atkins Advantage Bars. And it will disappear with one drink of water.
Like most nutritional bars, they are a nice size and will fit nicely in a purse, briefcase, or carry bag for easy transportation. You do have to watch that you do not leave them in the car. I made the mistake of leaving on in a bag in the hot Florida sunshine and the chocolate obviously melted to the wrapper. What a mess that was!
You can find them at most drug stores (Eckerd, Walgreens), discount stores (Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart), grocery stores, or you can even order them online (clifbar.com). Most of the time, these bars are on sale for $.99 in the stores near me so I usually just buy a few of each flavor that I like. Every once in awhile I choose to make a nice sized stockpile so that I do not run out before they go on sale again. Regular price for these bars run anywhere from $1.29-$1.59, so you would do best to buy when they are on sale.
So for a snack that tasted good going down, and healthy enough for any diet...try out these Luna Bars and you will not be disappointed. Especially when you realize that the proceeds from the sale of these bars all benefit the Breast Cancer Fund, which my family has contributed to since my grandmother’s recovery from the illness.
