| rhizu's Full Review: Luna Bars 1 Bar |
When the women in my office had a "challenge" to see who could loose the most weight, and how it was done, there was a LOT of experimenting with the products available. Nutritional bars wound up in almost every diet, and so there was a wide spectrum of choices, from some of the diet center supplements, to the big dog protein snacks. Across the board, the Luna bars came in as the best tasting, best nutritional value, best priced bar around.
I found them at my grocery store, was intrigued by the flavors, and tried one. Holy Moly! Almost like eating a candy bar, except it wasn't overly sweet. I am very fond of the Lemon Zest flavor, it tastes as good as a lemon bar cookie. Another BIG purchasing point for me is that a portion of the sale price goes to help fight breast cancer. Admittedly, I have not checked out the Clif Bar site to see how this is accomplished, but I have no reason to believe that this isn't so.
Something that came up during the course of this challenge, is that one of our physicians, who runs a program for weight loss and control, loves these bars. She says that they are the best supplement on the market geared towards women, and that the nutrition in them is incredibly balanced. The dietician in our office agrees. Two professional opinions that correlate with my tastebuds. Not a bad thing.
I like that they have staying power. If I eat one for breakfast, I can work until a late lunch without getting the shakes. The texture is dense without being sluggish or too thick to swallow, the variety of flavors is excellent, the flavors are incredible, and the price is one that doesn't send me into shock. Usually, the Luna bars are priced at about $1.15, and on sale they can be gotten for $0.79. That is a great deal for a good tasting, nutritionally correct bar.
I have tried some of the other bars out there, the Power Bars, the Clif Bars, Jenny Craig, and they are OK, but not as satisfying, The closest for me is the Clif Bar, which is not surprising since they manufacture the Luna Bars. The other bars I have tried tend to be either chalky, and hard to swallow, or overly dense with little texture. It could be the flavors I have tried, it could be that I am different in what I like in a nutritional supplement. I am still willing to try other brands, but so far not one of them has had the same combination of flavor, texture and nutrition that puts Luna in my shopping cart. Or into my "emergency rations" in the car, purse and locker.
