I have tried various sippy cups with my baby who is now 12 months old. She doesn't have a great fondness for the bottle but doesn't seem to have the hang of the sippy cups either. We have tried various brands but none have caught on until we tried this one.
I first picked this one up when it was recommended to me by an employee at Babies R Us. At $1.49 per cup, which is much cheaper than other sippy cups, I decided to give it a try.
WHAT YOU GET
This sippy cup comes in three pieces similar to a bottle. There is the plastic cup part. The cup is translucent and comes in various colors. I like the fact that you can easily see how much liquid is inside even if the liquid is water. The cup is made out of thinner plastic than other sippy cups or even many bottles. The good part is that the cup is lightweight so small babies can hold it. However, the thinner plastic may not hold up for the long term.
There is a ring that fits over the cup and a silicone top that slides into the ring. However, instead of a nipple, like a bottle, this silicone top has a spout similar to other sippy cups. The spout is one of the smallest I have seen so it will seem similar to a nipple. It is also soft silicone instead of hard plastic so it will feel more familiar to baby.
The spout is supposed to be spill proof, although ours has leaked if tossed off the high chair or out of the playpen. There is no valve inside the spout, so there is no small plastic piece to get lost in the dishwasher.
The only thing I really don't like about this cup is that there is no travel top. If you want to throw the cup in the diaper bag, there is no way to keep the top clean.
OUR EXPERIENCE
Baby grabbed on to this cup and took to it easily. She started sucking on her first try and can get as much liquid out of it as she can out of a bottle. She can drink from it laying down in my arms, similar to how she took a bottle. She is also getting the hang of how to use it on her high chair sitting up. She definitely prefers this cup to her other sippy cups by a wide margin.
The cup is thin in the middle with some ridges so baby can grasp it easily. This work well for my baby, even during meal times when her hands get sticky/slimey/slippery.
The cup washes well in the top rack of the dishwasher. We separate all the pieces to get it really clean. We have washed our cups several times now and they all come clean easily and we have had any problems.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I really like this cup. Baby loves it. It generally doesn't leak unless dropped or tossed. I just wish that there was a travel cover available to keep the top clean in the diaper bag. If your child is having difficulty transitioning to a cup, give this model a try. It worked for us when many other models failed.
