Back around Christmas, I was looking for stocking stuffers for our then 11 month-old. Just what do you stuff a stocking with for a babe this age? Sippy cups crossed my mind. While rifling through the cups, I spied this nifty plate. Too big for the stocking, but still nifty enough for me to get. We needed a good plate, and this looked like a good one. I was right! I finally found a plate that won’t be easily slung from the tray of the highchair.
Description
The Luv n’ Care Microwave Section Plate is made of colorful hard polyproyline plastic and is 9 inches by 7 inches in dimension, with the deepest part of each section at about 1½ inches. There are 3 sections, a large main dish and 2 smaller side-dish sections.
Each section has it’s own slightly domed see-through plastic cover. These covers are snug-fitting and have tabs for ease of removal. Each cover also has small, round steam vents which allow the sealed plate to be microwaved safely and with no mess. The vents are composed of soft TPE and feature a cross-cut design for venting.
Each side of the plate has colorful, textured rubber strips on top and bottom for easy gripping (bottom strips are not textured. The bottom of the plate features this really handy-dandy no-skid bottom, comprised of ¼ inch rubber stripping around each section. Let me tell you, this gripper stuff works wonders. Our Tyler, the King of Fling, manages to keep all foodstuffs intact, and the plate firmly on his tray.
Cleaning
This plate and covers are top-rack dishwasher safe (or wash ‘em the old-fashioned way). While the plate is probably sturdy enough for the bottom rack and probably more convenient to put there, the rubber stripping is not. Dishwashers generate more heat to the bottom rack, and over time, the stripping will degrade and begin to peel from the plate.
Microwave Instructions
Secure lids onto the compartments and heat at the proper time and temperature for the food inside. Make sure to stir the food in each compartment to disperse the heat and always test the temperature before serving to baby.
Tip: Over-heating not only makes the food yucky, but it can also warp the plate and lids and degrade the rubber stripping.
Final Thoughts
I’m very satisfied with this product and its convenience. It comes in assorted colors and is really handy for travel, too. The individually covered sections are tightly sealed and do not leak (I tested it out with some nice, messy food). I’ll definitely buy more of these plates.
Luv n’ Care makes this product not only under their label, but also the Wal Mart brand, Parent’s Choice. So if you can’t find the Luv n’ Care product, you’re getting exactly the same plate with Parent’s Choice.
