In my quest to find the perfect diaper, I have tried a good number of stars and duds, with the majority of the diapers falling somewhere in the middle range. I have tried most all of the big name brands and some of the lesser- known brands in my attempt to find the ultimate protection from wetness and general messiness. One diaper that belongs in the ranks of the well- known is Luvs, a product of the Proctor and Gamble Company.
Basic Facts About This Product:
Luvs diapers have a contour shape that fits snugly to your babies bottom with a double wall of protection on the elastic edges to keep wetness inside. The inside of the diaper feels like cotton, making them comfortable against a babys delicate skin. The outside has a surface that feels like a combination of cloth and paper.
Two large fasteners keep Luvs diapers sealed when your baby is wearing them. These tabs are dual in nature, with half of the tab using a sticky adhesive and the other half using Velcro. The Velcro attaches itself to the front side of the diaper and it can be removed and reattached several times without wearing out.
For visual appeal, Luvs makes its diapers using a blue checkered design. Close to the waistline, in the front of the diaper, there is a strip with colors like orange, purple, and yellow. There is a blue- colored dog (Blues Clues) in the center for cuteness. The diapers are also lightly scented, with the smell of baby powder.

Final Thoughts:
Luvs diapers are manufactured by consumer goods giant Proctor and Gamble and they are one of a few different diaper products made by this company. Pampers are the best known P&G diaper product. Luvs are not quite as popular but they are also more affordable.
One thing that is very different about Luvs diapers is the thinness of the construction. When I first removed one of these diapers from the large package, I was very concerned about how thin they were. They just didnt seem thick enough to soak up all the wetness that would soon be coming their way. I wasnt sure what would happen when I put them to the test, but every diaper at least deserves a chance to prove itself worthy or unworthy of claiming my money so I went ahead and put a Luvs diaper on my little girl and waited for the results.
So how have the results played out? Well, I have had mixed results with this diaper. When my little girl was smaller and didnt wet in such large quantities, Luvs seemed to be able to absorb the mess. But as she has grown from a size one diaper to a size three, Luvs is no longer capable of absorbing the wetness. This doesnt mean that Luvs never succeeds at stopping wetness and leaks. It only means that Luvs fails a good percentage of the time. I have found that the most troubling time is early in the morning, when my little one is waking up from a long nights sleep. If she is wearing Luvs, there is a good chance her bed sheets will be a little bit wet.
Believe it or not, Luvs is presently offering a Leakguard Guarantee, with a promise to refund consumers the cost of the diapers if the leak protection is less than satisfactory. Notice how they word this. They dont say the diaper will almost certainly stop leaks. Instead they say that they will refund your money if the leak protection isnt satisfactory. By making it a subjective decision, it is safe to say that most consumers will not bother to take advantage of this offer. Actually, anyone can ask for a refund regardless of the reason since there is no way to know for certain whether the diapers protected your particular baby from leaks. But by stating the guarantee the way they do, it is harder to assess whether or not Luvs are acceptable. My problems with the leakage have been mostly in the mornings. I havent had any major problems during the rest of the day and when my little girl was younger there were almost no problems at all. So, as to my feelings about an acceptable level of leak protection, I would be unable to provide one definite answer.
The design of Luvs is a little different from other diapers and it may or may not contribute to the tendency to leak. What Im referring to is what I alluded to earlier: the thin design of the diaper. When you take a diaper from the package and examine it, you can clearly see and feel the difference between Luvs and many of its competitors. It is thinner, and this thinness makes it seem less capable of holding back wetness. I havent bothered to actually test to see whether or not the absorbing capacity of this diaper really is less than others but it certainly seems like it isnt based on sight and touch.
Luvs are offered in the same sizes as other diapers, with infant sizes (size 1) available all the way up to larger sizes for larger toddlers (size 6). They are offered in many different size packages and, like other diapers, the number of diapers in each package level decreases slightly as you move up the size levels. But the thing that stands out with these diapers more than any other is the price. They are a few dollars less expensive than other diapers, like Pampers and Huggies, for a similar size package and this can really add up over time. The large, bulk size package is one of the best deals around. I have seen Size three packages containing 104 diapers selling for only $19. This works out to a cost of only about 18 cents per diaper, making Luvs one of the cheapest among the popular names in diapers.
Overall, I cant say Im terribly pleased with Luvs but Im not terribly disappointed either. These diapers worked well when I first purchased them and my baby was only a tiny infant wearing a size one diaper. At that point, I would have given Luvs a rating of four stars. But now that she is older and wears a size three, my opinion has declined a little bit due to the problem with morning wetness. For these reasons, Im going to give Luvs a middle rating of three stars and a conditional recommendation. They seem good for very young babies and they are priced very economically. But beware if your baby is older. You could end up changing his/her diaper and sheets when you wake up in the morning.
