| KMINER's Full Review: Luvs Diapers |
Five years later we have another child, and the baby market has changed. After trying a few different brands, we decide to try the newer version of Luvs Diapers that are currently on the market, mainly because they are cheaper than the Pampers we had been purchasing. I say the "current" Luvs mainly because, 5 years ago, we tried the "then current" version of Luv's diapers, complete with Barney decor, and hated them. Hated the feel, the smell, the design, the tabs - hated them. Quickly we check out the package though (no Barney) - just cute ol' Blue from Blue's Clues fame, and claims that these diapers have a "soft tab".
The new Luvs Diapers are really nice. Gone is that weird powdery smell, and bizarre outer layer I never wanted to touch. These are a nice diaper, comparable I feel now with the current Pampers and Huggies on the market. The tabs on these diapers are especially nice - they are very soft and they really stretch and grip. What is also nice is that I can stick and re-stick these with no problems! These diapers have contained even the most horrible of messes (trust me, she has some really bad stomach things going on for a while there) - everything was still horrible to clean, but at least it was all still in the diaper. I cannot think of the last time we had a leak or something not stay in the diaper!
I do wonder why Luvs seems to love designs though. The size we have her in have Blue from Blue's Clues on the top panel. But it also has this intricate diamond/diagonal blue striped pattern going all over the diaper. I just don't understand where it would hurt Luvs to keep the diapers white! I don't love how when she is wearing white clothing the diaper pattern shows through, but since the diapers perform so well I am learning to live with it.
I will say that we've used these diapers more than any other brand. We started our daughter in the size 2's, which fit pretty good. When we first moved up to the size 3's, they fit her pretty well. As she grew though, the diapers seemed to not fit her body - they weren't wide enough and there was too much "diaper" squished in between her legs. Though the size 3's were well within her current weight (she's 19 pounds, once they started to fit tight we went up a size to the size 4's). Within the first few days of using I noticed that they now fit her waist great, but there was even more "bunching" of the diaper between her legs - it just looked uncomfortable. Our daughter's daycare teacher happened to test White Cloud size 3 diapers on her at this time, they fit great, were even cheaper than the Luvs, and that is what we used through 2 packs while she was growing. I did go back to the Luvs Diapers - I just felt they held together better and really kept the leaks in and they were worth the few dollars more.
For us Luvs Diapers are the cheapest of the "leading name brands" and just a dollar or two more than the store type brands where we shop. I like that Luvs are always in stock, I can always find her size, and that I don't have to go to a special store to find them. Overall they fit my daughter well, she can crawl around in them fine, and they never seem to leak or leak out unwanted messes. They can hold a lot of urine and still stay put together, not smell or fall apart. We keep coming back to buying Luvs Diapers each time we run out and I don't see us changing diapers at least until she gets to walking age.
Luvs Diapers really stepped up their game in the last 5 years - they went from a diaper I wouldn't dream of putting on my baby, to a diaper I wouldn't dream of being without!
