| maggsmomm's Full Review: Luvs Ultra Leakguards Stretch |
I have seen the commercial for LUVS Ultra Leakguards more times than I care to remember. In fact, something clicked one day while shopping.
I noticed them sitting on the shelf next to my regular priced brand. After I compared the prices and sizes, I thought I would try them out.
A little under ten (10.00) dollars wasn't bad for experimentation. I took them home and....
The Hype
LUVS Ultra Leakguards packaging claims:
@- Leak Guarded Protection
@- Refasten Tabs
@- Moisture Lock Barrier
@-Cloth Like Cover
@-Luv'n Liner Aloe
@-and my favorite, "Luvs-virtually leak proof!"
What does virtually leak proof mean? Kinda, sorta, they do not leak? They only leak when filled to the brim with liquid? Leak Proof under normal wear and tear? Well, after using this product for well over nine (9) months lets see...........
Design
If you do not know (been hiding under a rock eh?) LUVS diapers, wipes, and packaging is covered with BARNEY & Friends.
Guess What?
I hate Barney. I cannot stand him. Not his shows, toys, or his picture strewn across the packaging of LUVS diapers. If I can get over that than so can you! Besides most kids like Barney, and what are the chances your child is going to notice him on their under pants anyway? Very unlikely until they reach a certain age.
The Cloth Like Cover is as close to cloth as you will find with any diaper even higher priced brands compare. The outside is soft and feels like granny panties. Uhmm I meant to say cotton. You get the picture now?
If you don't on the outside of the diaper at the waist is a fiber woven strip, this is where you will find Barney, a pretty background color, stars, suns, moons, and the DIAPER'S SIZE. You will fasten the tabs here.
The Refasten Tabs are approximately an inch long. They are called tabs because they are made sticky on one side and at the end of the tab is a quarter inch space for you to grab to refit the diaper onto your child. You can place them on the woven strip and take them off over and over and they will stick every time.
Fitted for Comfort
The legs are stretchy, and have two "barriers" that fit snugly yet softly around your child's legs. The inner barrier is tighter than the outer one giving you two chances to stop leaks before the diaper over flows. These fitted leg areas are very flexible and move with your child. However they are not too flexible, they will not let anything out that is supposed to be in!
The Moisture Barrier
LUVS claims this keeps moisture away form babies skin. It is simply an extra ply in between the insides of the diaper that keeps wetness inside the diaper and away form babies delicate skin.
Does it work?
Over the summer my daughter was playing in the sandbox when she decided to take a quick dip in her kiddy pool. Before I could stop her, clothes and all went into the pool. Of course I undressed her so she could continue to play. Her diaper weighed about 4 pounds. It was as big as all outdoors yet the inside was still DRY! I quickly wrapped it up and used the tabs to keep it wrapped. Not one drop of water came out of it as I was carrying it into the house.
The liner also has added "ALOE" which LUVS refers to as their "Luv'n Liner Aloe" which is added to help keep your child's skin soft, and helps prevent rashes.
Sensitive Skin?
My daughter seems to have quite delicate skin. We have had no problems with these diapers irritating her skin. The inside of the diaper not only stays dry, but soft. This keeps it from being abrasive against her sensitive skin.
However, if your child has had a reaction in the past to ALOE you may want to pass these diapers up.
Reality Check!
So these diapers have all the added bonuses as the major brands but at half the cost-so what gives?
Do not think you are trading comfort and protection to save money. Not at all, in fact these diapers work BETTER and harder than some major brands.
There is continuous protection inside the diaper. LUVS doesn't put a tiny strip of absorbent material in the center of the diaper. No, the absorbent pad starts at the top front of the diaper and goes to the rear-literally. Chances are, boys or girl you don't need any more protection than this.
Once diapers were made to suit genders for obvious reasons. Boys tend to wet in the front where girls tend to wet the middle or back. My daughter wets in the front, middle, and the back. It all depends on what she is doing; sleeping, standing, or sitting. I have had only a few leaks out of hundreds and hundreds of LUVS Ultra Leakguards.
The Infamous Exploding Diaper!
Have you ever had a diaper blow out? I have had many in the past two and a half years. A blow out occurs when their is too much liquid in a diaper making the gel blow up and then the diaper explodes.
I have NOT has ONE INSTANCE of this occurring with LUVS diapers. No messy gel beads all over the place. Yuk!
Price & Availability:
I will admit I have had a problem finding any of these diapers in size 6 in any other package size other than the JUMBO. Generally that is al I can find no matter where I go.
The rest of the diapers seem to be available everywhere in every package size.
Prices vary but on average they run anywhere from eight (8.00) to ten (10.00) dollars per jumbo package. Expect to pay a little less for smaller packages and a little more for larger packages.
Diaper Sizes, and Package Sizes
(taken from www.luvs.com)
Luvs Diaper Sizes:
*Size 1 8-14 pounds
*Size 2 12-18 pounds
*Size 3 16-28 pounds
*Size 4 22-37 pounds
*Size 5 over 27 pounds
*Size 6 over 35 pounds
Luvs Package Sizes:
*Convenience Pack (size) 1-6
*Medium Pack (size) 1-6
*Jumbo Pack (size) 1-6 (we use this pack in size 6-it has 32 diapers)
*Mega Pack (size) 1-6
*Super Mega Pack (size) 3-5
Pampers, Huggies, and White CLoud diapers run small or about average size in my opinion, whereas LUVS seems a tad bit bigger. For instance-my daughter now wears a size 6, compared to other brands these are at least a few inches bigger all the way around.
MaggsMomm's Thoughts:
I wish I had tried these sooner. They may not send out coupons but even without coupons they are less expensive than major brands.
I have many friends with younger children that are using these diapers. They seem to have the same results as I in these diapers.
I have had no problems with leaking in any way except for over night use. If you child is a "heavy wetter" at night than you may prefer LUVS night time diapers.
All of LUVS claims have been proven to be true in my experience. We have had less diaper rashes, less leaks, and happier mornings. Even if her diaper is bulging for a change!
I HIGHLY recommend these diapers for all ages of children. You do not have to compromise quality to save money.
