Back when my hair was an auburn color, I desperately needed to redo my makeup. While I could stick with the same skin care routine and foundation shades, what looked great on my eyes and lips and cheeks with dark hair didn't look so hot with a reddish shade. One afternoon, my fabulous mother-in-law and I went to our local MAC store and had makeovers.
The last suggestion the consultant made to me was that I needed to purchase MAC's Lipglass. I tried two shades that day: Spite and a reddish shade. The reddish shade looked...just wrong. It made my face look washed out and my lips were too bright. Spite, on the other hand, was just right.
Spite is a strange color. I think it's one that you need to try on for yourself. There are some days when it looks amazing on me and others when I try it and my lips look like I'm a corpse on "Six Feet Under". The color is not shimmery and it's a sort of mauve/plum/lavender/gray/taupe/brownish hue. I think I covered just about every possibility in that description! MAC calls it a "muted plum-taupe brown".
Because Spite's color wasn't "right" about half the time, depending upon what I was wearing, about a month later I went back to the MAC counter to look for another shade. This time, I walked out with a tube of Lovechild.
Lovechild seems more pink to me and is very close on the color chart on MAC's website to Spite. I wouldn't use the website to choose a shade because the colors aren't very true to life. The description online of Lovechild is that it's a "coppered plum". The only copper to it is a tiny bit of shimmer which I would call golden rather than copper. Other than that, it's a pinky brown shade that I find very complementary, even after changing my hair back to a dark brown color.
The container itself holds .18 ounces of lip gloss in a clear tube with a black cap. It has a soft fuzzy foam applicator and the gloss has a lovely vanilla scent. The product is extremely sticky so you don't want to wear this outside on a windy day. Believe me, your hair will stick to your lips. Lipglass is a product that tends not to wear off and has incredible staying power, particularly for a lipgloss. Your mileage may vary but I find that I really do need to remove it.
Should you wish to purchase MAC Lipglass, a tube will run you $13.50. The product is currently available in dozens of shades ranging from clear to dark burgundy as well as a variety of novelty colors. With such a variety of shades, there's something here for everyone.
