MAC Zoomlash mascara
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The air was split with a guttural scream.
"WHY DO YOU DO THAT?!!?? I SAID I WOULD BE OUT IN A MINUTE"
"We are going to be late. Will you PLEASE hurry up?"
"We will be fine. I just want to make sure that I look perfect for tonight."
I calmly reached for a tissue and dabbed at the blotch on my eye caused by the sudden jolt of surprise. At least it was not the mascara. I mean, it is ALWAYS the mascara.
They never bang on the door until I am applying mascara. I could be only 5 minutes or 65 minutes in the bathroom, but suddenly when I reach for the mascara, an invisible radar kicks in and someone is compelled to come and knock on the door. This, of course, causes me to jump, interrupting the intense concentration needed to apply the stuff, and, well you can imagine what happens then.
Well, at least the knocking came early this time. I was finally safe.
Smiling to myself, I reached for the black tube of ZOOMLASH. Finally I was going to see what it was like to actually put my mascara on in peace. Only one more minute and we would just squeeze out the door to make it to our important appointment in time.
I looked at myself in the mirror serenely. Two coats and my lashes looked like I had always wanted them to look. Long, lush, separated and defined. One more coat and they would be absolute perfection.
After a slight battle with my conscience, I decided to make one more careful sweep of the wand....
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The sudden noise sent me leaping in the air, the wand skating across my entire face leaving a coal colored path in its wake.
From deep down inside me came an eruption rivaled by Mt. St. Helens. We WOULD have been on time, but now- how was I going to get this stuff off? I looked like a tiny skateboarder had used my face for practice.
I shook as I tried to think how to deal with this enraging humiliating turn of events. How was I going to clean this up and reapply SOMETHING that looked decent enough for an expensive formal dinner...........
WHY ZOOMLASH?
Before I conclude my story, let me pause here for a moment to talk about MAC ZOOMLASH MASCARA.
For years I looked for a mascara that would give me that Hollywood movie lash look. Never mind the real Hollywood look is assisted by the addition of fake lashes- I figured that there HAD to be a product out there that would duplicate that look- exactly what the cosmetic marketing moguls wanted me to think...
I found one mascara once that came close some years ago. It was by L'Oreal and was called Formula Riche. Unfortunately they opted for a new and improved brand and they have gone downhill since.
Not one drug store brand was any good- they all bothered me for one reason or another as they kept "improving" formulas. The only department store brand that seemed to be my answer to mascara was Lancome DEFINICILS and FLEXTENCILS.
I was relatively satisfied with these mascaras, thinking that they were the best I was ever going to see, and then I hit the MAC counter.
Back when I made my unexpected trip to a MAC counter last summer, MAC FIBRE RICH LASH had recently come out and I was truly impressed by the MAC artist's lashes.
When ZOOMLASH mascara came out, I decided to try it. The price was a LOT less than Lancome's so I figured that it was worth the try.
Boy am I glad I did!
WHAT IS ZOOMLASH LIKE?
MAC ZOOMLASH comes in two colors ZOOMBLACK and LOFTY BROWN.
The container is a black plastic tube(brushed finish) with a plastic cap. The brush is tapered to a point. The bristles are typically spaced like other mascaras.
The mascara itself is a thick gel. This means that it will not dry quite as fast as other mascaras. It does not mean, however, that the results will not be excellent.
There is a slight odor to this mascara. I do not have any problems at all, but some people might find it annoying. I do not smell it or experience any kind of irritation from it.
One or two coats of this mascara has DEFINICILS or FLEXTENCILS beat. I have actually put ZOOMLASH on one side and DEFINICILS or FLEXTENCILS on the other side. People always pick the MAC side as being noticeably better. (I should have been a pollster- I always take polls of people).
I like the ZOOMBLACK better than the brown. I use it 90% of the time. The brown just is not defining enough. Once in a while I use it when I have bright red hair or certain med blonde colors.
MY REACTIONS TO ZOOMLASH AND SPECS
Here is what the company says about this mascara (along with the size and price info):
This instant volume mascara power-lifts the lashes into length, curls them up...builds them faster than you can wink! Precision control wand glides smoothly down lashes to provide a gorgeously silky upward sweep. Smudgeproof and long-wearing! Available in Zoomblack and Lofty Brown.

I personally find this mascara to be the best I have ever used. I alternate between MAC FIBRE RICH mascara. When I want to hurry up and go out the door, I usually reach for Zoomlash. When I want to take more time to look REALLY lashy, I usually use the FIBRE RICH.
I find that ZOOMLASH goes on thickly, richly and does define the lashes with just a couple of coats. I do not have a problem with the gel being slower to dry unless I have to sneeze or itch. Then the lashes can glob together and I have to run a brush back through them to separate them again. (on clients that I do makeup on, I have to remind them to let this mascara dry before doing any severe blinking or touching their lashes)
My lashes remain flexible yet they are not sticking together like so many other mascaras seem to do these days. That is one of the most valuable features of ZOOMLASH.
I have used the same personal tube for 8 months (yes, I know that is not what they "say" to do) and it is just as good as the first day I got it. I like to test things to the max. For clients, I open a new tube every few months, and never re-dip applicators in the tube- I always used a new applicator.
ZOOMLASH does not run if I cry and it does not crumble all over my face. It lasts all day and even with runny eyes, it lasts longer than most mascaras have.
Once in a while all I have to do is gently dab the edges of the brush on a tissue before applying to remove clumps this makes it virtually trouble free application. Removal is easy with my usual soap remover......
.....Well, that is unless you have it running across your entire face.............
NOW BACK TO OUR STORY
So, here I was staring in horror at my black streaked face with only two minutes to restore the artwork that I had worked so hard to finish for our dinner....
What was I going to do?
Quickly I launched into action. I grabbed a tissue, foam sponge, soap, and cotton swabs and began to attack the black road on my face.
With rapid action and fierce determination, I finally was able to remove the tar-look road and now I had to restore the makeup.
I worked and worked on my eye, making sure that everything was restored as close as I could and then ran out the door to my husband who was carrying on with a verbal barrage about being late.
That night the dinner was great. I mean, I looked GOOD. My dress was really fancy and I was strutting around like a peacock. Everyone was looking at me and I was basking in the attention. Apparently I really looked HOT.
Smoothly I eased out of my chair, whisking my evening bag from the table, with a very cool whisper to my husband that I was going to visit the ladies' room.
As I came out of the posh stall, I caught a sideways glance of myself in the mirror. Wow. I looked so good. My makeup looked awesome.
I smiled to myself smugly as I glided across the floor in a manner that would have made Loretta Young proud. I reached for the sink, smiling cordially at a woman as she gazed at me in awe.
I was kind of puzzled, but shrugged and ran my hands under the faucet. I looked up briefly to check my makeup and my eyes got huge in horror.
Only one half of my face was made up. In my hurry to remove the black slash from my face, I removed the makeup from my cheeks and eyes, but I only restored the makeup on one side!
Suddenly the whole evening took on an entirely new meaning. Here I thought I was so cool with people staring at me in awe....... Oh BROTHER!
And...my husband never TOLD me?
Do they REALLY ever notice how we look?
HAHAHAHA
Will we EVER know the answers to these questions?....
