modernmarvel's Full Review: Sassy Mam Pacifier Keeper
I have used MAM pacifiers for over ten years across three children. These pacifier keepers are used to attach the pacifier to the baby's clothes.
THE PRODUCT
I love MAM pacifiers. My children have used them for years. However, a problem with all pacifiers is that baby tends to either spit them out or drop them (always onto some gross or dirty surface) and them immediately start crying because the pacifier is gone. I found my children tended to go through this stage from about six months until about eighteen months.
A solution to this problem is to attach the pacifier to the child. This pacifier keeper works with MAM pacifiers and, to my knowledge, doesn't work with other brands. One end of the pacifier keeper is a rubber ring. This rubber ring slips over the knob on the outside of the pacifier. There is a short ribbon and then a plastic clip on the other end. The plastic clip is fastened to the child's clothing. In order to prevent choking, the ribbon is quite short so it really must attach to the child's clothing on or around the collar or top button of a shirt.
The clip itself is not very wide. This is generally not a problem on most of baby's clothing. However, very thick clothing such as the straps of denim overalls, didn't fit inside the clip. The clip can be secured closed with a small plastic loop that holds the ends of the clip together. The mechinism seems safe for baby and we never had pinched fingers. However, a determined older toddler could easily pull the clip off of their clothing.
I found this product to be very useful, particularly in the car. It is awfully hard to retrieve a dropped pacifier in the back seat when you are driving and even harder to stay on the road when baby is wailing. This pacifier keeper was a good choice to keep the pacifier near baby's mouth where either she could return it or I could find it.
This product is very cute and comes in many bright colors with some cute designs. The ribbon is usually striped in the same bright colors the pacifiers come in. The clip has a cute design on it although baby won't appreciate it since it is usually clipped on clothing just below her chin.
The one problem I found with this product is that the plastic clip tended to snap at the joint. About half of ours failed in the first six months or so.
My pacifier keepers got dirty occasionally and I would wash them in the dishwasher either in the top rack or untensil holder on the bottom rack. They stood up well to washing. However, the ribbon, once wet, tended to stay wet for a long time. This could be uncomfortable for baby if it stays up against her skin.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I found these pacifier keepers to be helpful and we definitely used them at the appropriate developmental stage. The product design or materials could be improved because the clip didn't reliably last on the many we have bought over the years. Still, I would recommend this product based on its usefulness and colorful design.
