Arnold may be the Terminator, but I'm the LAMINATOR!
Written: Dec 04 '03 (Updated Dec 04 '03)
Pros:Excellent, easy to use, safe product that even kids can use.
Cons:Be sure to space your items far enough apart.
The Bottom Line: Even if you have just an occasional need to laminate, this is a very practical item. Kids will love using it too.
(BIG Thanks to Neal "nc10" for helping me get this item placed in the correct category!)
I received a laminating machine from my sister for my birthday some months ago.
The reason for her choice of this gift is simple. My sister calls me the "laminating queen". I admit I do like to laminate lots of things. Ok, so what if everything in my house is covered in plastic, what's wrong with that?
Well, all exaggeration aside, laminating has come in very handy for me in many cases. Do you have a treasured photo or perhaps an article from the newspaper you'd like to save for posterity? Laminating it is the answer. No more yellowed fraying newspaper articles. For example, I have several ID cards that need plastic protection. A plastic laminated cover sure does the trick.
This ezLaminator laminating machine is not quite what you get at your local copy store. This is a product which essentially is two large rolls of clear tape. This is a COLD laminator. There is no heat or electricity involved with the ezLaminator Machine. However, the large rolls are set in place on the machine and this assists you in guiding your project through without any bubbles or wrinkles! It's wonderful!
In the past before I had the ezLaminator, I would sometimes attempt to use large clear rolls of packing tape to protectively cover my ID tags. I was so totally clumsy and forever messing the tape up until it looks like a 3 year old taped it together. But the ezLaminator laminating machine is practically fool proof.
The ezLaminator Machine is very easy to operate. You simply place the object to be laminated in the feeder side of the machine and turn the crank, located on the side. The object comes out of the other side of the machine in seconds and both sides are beautifully laminated. There is no danger of heating and electricity involved. What could be more simple?
You can laminate 8-1/2 wide x as long as you need (you can even make laminated banners), since your item is being fed from a cartridge. At the side of the machine where the laminated item comes out is a safe built-in trimming edge, which will cut your item off the roll when it is done. You can trim your laminated pages as closely as you want to.
There is also a convenient handle in which to carry the laminator. It is lightweight and weighs only around 6 lbs.
My entire family has a series of phone numbers we share to reach each other, including home, office and cell numbers. We came up with a small card, the size of a credit card and made copies for everyone. I have laminated them all, cut them apart and now everyone has a handy laminated phone contact card they carry in their wallet!
Another nice thing about laminating is that you can punch holes in your laminated pages for storage in a binder. I have laminated business cards and then punched a hole in the corner for use on luggage or identification. Very simple and effective.
My sons have laminated their own projects too. Yes, it's safe and easy for children as well. When they were younger, my son's "designed" their own ID tag (without their name, for safety purposes), but made a unique ID and included some of their favorite designs. We then laminated the tags, hole-punched them, and hung them from their backpacks. Another fun project we came up with one summer was to have them design their own placemats. They made collages and cut outs of whatever their favorite things were (guitars, footballs, movies) and they wrote words and fancy designs and put it all on a large piece of colored paper, the size of a place mat. We laminated the whole thing! They used their very own personal designed placemats at mealtime for at least a couple of years!
The only word of caution is not to place multiple objects to be laminated too closely together, because until you get used to the laminator, you may, as I did, overlap the items. The feeder can grab two items, as you turn the crank and laminate them partially on top of each other. I was trying to save laminating tape when I did this, so it was my own fault. You cannot turn the crank handle backwards.
The ezLaminator Machine can be purchased at Office Max or Office Depot. Refiller rolls can be purchased here as well. My sister confessed that the cost for the ezLaminator was in the range of $50.00.
If you register your ezLaminator online, you will receive a 2-year warranty (www.ezlaminator.com).

The ezLaminator, comes with patented technology and provides two-sided, continuous cold lamination, which allows the user to preserve and protect. I usually laminate paper items, but the ezLaminator will work on items that are up to 1/16 of an inch thick and 8-1/2 inches wide. The plastic product is pliable, not stiff.
The ezLaminator machine is available with either a 15 foot or 30 foot lamination cartridge. I have the 30 foot cartridge and it really has lasted me through several months of laminating projects already. This roll will last a long time. It is so convenient. I sure got tired of running out to my local copy center, waiting in line, waiting for a clerk's assistance, etc. You can laminate anytime you want to in the convenience of your own home.
The EZ Laminator is manufactured by Duck/Henkel CA (formerly by Manco).
If there's someone on your Christmas list who might be a laminating queen (or king), as I am, you might want to consider this excellent product. I am very pleased with it.
Happy Laminating! Thanks for reading!
