Pros: They have a great advertising hype that draws people to them
Cons: They mislead in every way possible to get your business
The Bottom Line: If I could use my own words in the "Customer Service" block, I'd put "sh*tty". If you DON'T love your hard-earned money, get an MBNA credit card.

| pegbell's Full Review: MBNA Platinum Plus (Mastercard and Visa) |
Six months ago, I was bombarded, on an almost weekly basis, practically begged, to open an account with MBNA. Seriously now, I was getting their applications weekly. When I finally got the one that advertised "Zero percent interest on Balance Transfers until Jan. 2003 and no fee", I figured, "what the heck. I'll transfer those other charges over and will have that transferred card finished with and will have no more interest. Then I will probably have the balance that I've transferred to MBNA paid off by January. No more finance charges at all!"
Things were going along fine with my application. It moved VERY quickly. I had requested a transfer of over $9500 bucks to MBNA and they JUMPED on me. So for three or four months, I just made large payments each month; the minimum required was always around $20.00 and I always paid $400-$600.
THEN THE MISTAKE! I needed to make an advertising charge and the company would not take my Discover card. I had to use the MBNA Mastercard. I charged $375.00 knowing that I would have to pay the finance charges on this charge. When my statement came in (and of course, there were finance charges applied to the statement), I went ahead and sent a check in the amount of $401.00--this to cover the $375.00 charge, the $1.85 finance charge, the $18.00 minimum and whatever the small remainder was to just go towards my balance. NOW READ THIS, GUYS!!! I SPECIFICALLY INCLUDED A NOTE WITH MY CHECK AND PRINTED VERY SMALL IN THE MEMO OF MY CHECK HOW I WANTED THE AMOUNT OF THE CHECK TO BE DISBURSED--which was exactly as I have broken it down here.
GUESS WHAT, PEOPLE! MBNA won't do it! Know what "Mike" told me tonight? No matter HOW much money I send to them, unless it is the entire balance (about $7,000 now), FROM NOW ON, I will have a finance charge as long as I have ANY balance on the account because when I made that $375 charge, I "basically" waived my ZERO percent interest on the balance transfer amount!!! Is this not the most absurd thing you've EVER heard of?????
Of course, I asked "MIKE" where, in my original application agreement could I find the information that would tell me that this is how the Zero Percent Balance Transfers are handled if I ever make a purchase charge, and of course, Mike couldn't answer this question.
I will pay the account off in full before months end. I will NOT allow these people to claim another dime of MY money that they didn't earn nor deserve, NOR that I charged or agreed to pay under these circumstances.
I will also tell the "world" about how unscrupulous MBNA is and I will give them tremendous warnings about dealing with MBNA.
Final word to anyone seeking a credit card and considering MBNA........DON'T GO THERE!!
